Egg prices - OMG!

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that enjoys cooking.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
On the farm it's standard practice to NOT eat a bird that has died on it's own. Matter of fact we were supposed to send them in for inspection if it was an unknown reason.
Raccoon kill (or other) was also not eaten. Only birds we ate were ones we raised and butchered ourselves.
None of those birds are dying on their own. They're being massacred.

I was being facetious people. Don't you know my sense of humor by now?
Humour 101
When someone cracks a joke, facetious, deadpan or other, visuals and auditory aides are key factors which allow people to realize it is a joke and not an insult, rudeness or malicious attempt to mislead.
Ergo, when it is written as it would be in, say.... oohh I don't know,... perhaps a Forum? such as Discuss Cooking, it would greatly facilitate understanding if an emoji were also inserted.

hmmm what? I don't get it, oh wow - I get it! what a brilliant idea.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . :w00t:. . .

Maybe a wee bit of overkill. But stop beating yourself up... it looks painful and you'll have some nasty bruises.
Not to worry, you'll get the hang of it.
Remembering of course, this is a friendly place. :flowers:

That's pretty much it, yep.

I stopped at Kroger on my way home from work yesterday and they were $1 more a dozen than they were last week. They just keep going up. Some of the prices I'm seeing posted here and other places on social are astounding.

Prices are kind of all over the place right now. I'm seeing some items coming down in price, while others are going up or staying the same as they were.

Egg prices are finally going up here. Not sure if it is bird flu, or profit fever causing it. Bird flu was supposedly worse in some areas of the country than others.

Over the last four weeks, overall inflation is up 3-percent, and eggs are up 15-percent. Eggs are up 53-percent over this time last year.

If the tariffs happen on March 4, I worry fruits and veggies will go up by a bunch. Half the fruits and veggies in grocery stores around me come from Mexico, especially avocados, which won't bother me since I don't like avocados.

I just checked and Amazon still has those 18 packs of large brown eggs for $5.49. Amazon must have their own chicken ranch somewhere safe. I don't see why not. They have everything else. Their latest is a pharmacy and primary medical care. It's $199 a year, but if you have Amazon Prime you get it for $99! I remember when all they were was an online bookstore.

Ain't no way I'm buying eggs from Amazon.com. I order 50 pound bags of dog food from Amazon, so I only have to move it from my porch to the pantry. Dog food is neither fragile nor perishable. I don't want my eggs warm and pre-scrambled.

I don't think inflation is going away any time soon. I could be wrong, but if I'm right, get used to it. Adjust. Since we all cook a lot of our food, we can eat well and still pay the utility bills.

The rising price of eggs is unpleasant. The same rising price of beer would be much more unpleasant. :ROFLMAO:

Eggs have gotten much more expensive here. 😒

We are hosting 6 of our friends this weekend for drinking, games, etc.

Im making a French menu and want to make gougeres which require eggs. Yesterday’s grocery store trip was alarming. Also bacon is like $12 and it’s not a pound anymore.

Also bacon is like $12 and it’s not a pound anymore.
Store brand bacon is about $8.00. Big name is $9.00 neither of which is a pound any more. Has been like that for over a year now. Can't remember exactly but a little over .300 kg.

My other gripe is how the package bacon now, this has been going on for some time now. The front window that displays the bacon is over just the tops of the bacon, you cannot see the fat distribution. On some you can see the the distribution on the backs. If they are on sale, I flip each and everyone of those packages over till I find the one I want. Got a glare from a girl stocking the bin one day. I simply smiled at her and said - I don't buy what I can't see - and walked away.
One store brand still packages them the "old" way. I send the an email about once every 6 months to praise and tell them how much I appreciate their packaging.
I don't want super lean nor do I want 95% fat! I want a decent distribution.

They were $6.99 a dozen for the Publix brand yesterday. The  better eggs were $8.49 up, but there were none to be had.

Trader Joe had them for 3.99 IIRC with a security guard standing over them. Limit one package per person. People got violent about that.

Other stores were 9.99 and 8.99. I did not buy them.

For that matter, chicken went way up too.

And with Easter coming up... very sad insofar as eggs are concerned.

BUT a favourite blogger I follow has just posted several bun recipes. Where to start, where to start -
Maritossi (Italian) - these sound super yummy, brioche
Belgian Buns (British) - lemon curd also yum
Cranberry Lemon - another yummy lemon curd
or
Cornish Splits (British tea) - jam and whipped cream

for some reason Hot Cross Buns were never a favourite of mine although Dad would always have a big grin on his face when he brought them home. Don't know whether it was the lemon zest or currants that at my "tender" age had not learned to appreciate yet?
