The friendliest place on the web for anyone that enjoys cooking.

Hush! 80 is still young!
You are welcome in my home should you ever choose to visit our lovely country 🫠
My first big trip with my (now not then) wife was to Australia in 2016. 3 weeks all over the eastern part.

It was AMAZING!

I’d move there in a heartbeat. Also to Marrakech, Paris and Barcelona.

Members of family have been, sadly I have not. I have been around a few European countries which is amazing. Visit a city? Yes, but live in one, NO. I'd love to tour Australia but if I chose a place to live think it would be Scotland or New Zealand. I know weird, eh?

Denny's $5.95 special. Two pancakes, two eggs any style, and two bacon stripps.
Maybe in your Denny's. Certainly not in the one we have here. $5.99 might pay for 2 eggs and coffee, but not much more. But you know, now that I think of it, the Denny's near me is right off the highway and next to a motel. I'm sure their prices are higher because of that.

Back in the days of going to bars, Denny's was one of our favorite stops on the way home, after a night of drinking, to pig out on a bunch of food. We'd get the big plate of nachos and share it between us, plus whatever else we decided to order.

If we weren't hitting up Denny's, we would go to Tee Jaye's. The Barnyard Buster was my favorite thing to get from there.

I wait for bacon to go on BOGO here, which means around $5 here for nice, thick cut bacon. I cut them in the middle, bag and freeze. Then, I can pull out 1 of the half packages, let it thaw for an hour or so just enough to pull off a chunk of several half pieces, then put the rest back in the freezer. It doesn't hurt the bacon at all to do that.
Jimmy Dean's thick cut bacon is BOGO at Winn Dixie this week, $10.99 here for 1 package/pound. So, at BOGO, $5.50 for a pound.

So, move!
Yeah, I suppose there's a place under the overpass I could move to...but I think it's alreqdy occupied. I used to live close enough to walk to them, but rent got too high. So now, moving 22 miles away, I own an acre of land with peace and quiet and pine trees all around me and I'm not giving that up for a Denny's. LOL

Or, just don't go to Denny's! :ROFLMAO:

Ain't you preaching to the choir here?

Today I paid $4.49 for 18 eggs. think that's a good deal?
.
Oh, did I mention they were Quail eggs?
I've never bought quail eggs before, so I couldn't tell you from personal experience. But after doing a little bit of poking around, I see where some are saying it depends on the size of the eggs. And one person mentioned they paid $8 for a dozen of jumbo and around $4 to $5 for a dozen 'regular' size.

So $4.49 for 18 eggs sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

crack in your quail eggs and bake. It is really hard to judge when they are cooked to your liking - only practice will tell.

AWKKKK! I accidently just deleted the whole file of Quail Eggs in Toast!.. 😨😲😭😭 I don't think I've ever done that before!

Maybe I'll make some again this weekend. Cause otherwise you'll never see my finished toast. Unless you make some yourself.
But it is about 3 or 4 quail eggs for a serving to come even close to a chicken or duck egg. So 18 eggs really don't go very far.

I like to hard boil them and either halve or just toss whole into salads and as a garnish where ever it strikes me.
They are terrible to crack open (those little suckers have strong shells) and just as difficult to peel whole as well.
But they are cute, tasty and fit right in.

Found copies in another file! So last pic shows eggs done just a trifle too much.

An acre of land anywhere near Seattle probably set you back a pretty penny .

I was out in Seattle on business about ten years ago, and looked at real estate prices. I was shocked! I wished I could pick my 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath, two car garage home near Dallas, move it to Seattle, and sell it for well over two-million bucks.

That is the American version of "toad-in-a-hole."

That is really cool. I'd make something like that, but because I can't eat undercooked eggs, there would be no point, really, because I would want the egg yolks runny.

It's not in Seattle and actually not very near, either. Think Bremerton across the water from Seattle and then Belfair about 12 miles south of Bremerton and then I live about 11 miles beyond Belfair.

This particular area doesn't have a lake at the center of it. There's lakes galore around here and they're all HOAs around the lakes. We don't have an HOA, but we have a road maintenance association and no lot restrictions, which is fantastic because in the winter, the roads get plowed when there's snow. My lot is one in what used to be about a 10 acre area that was completely undeveloped 20 years ago. When I looked at the lots that it had been divided into, there was only one house on 2 lots. I bought the cheapest lot and only because it already had a water source. I paid for it with the backpay I got when I was finally declared disabled. I only spent $30,000 on it and lived on the lot for the first year and a half in a trailer with no inside running water, plumbing, or electricity.

The contractor then made a deal with the owner of all the other lots and started to develop them all (4 others with manufactured houses and one stick built house). Because I was smack dab in the middle, he offered to have me swap my lot for a corner lot to make it easier for him to move his machinery around and once I saw that lot, I grabbed it. It's a completely level lot, rare up in the hills where everything slopes. I had already paid for a driveway and water spigots on the old lot, so got those free on the new lot. The contractor also offered a loan to put in septic and electric, so I took him up on that and used what I had saved to buy this awful trailer.

Last year, I paid off the loan and had grass put in. This is what it looks like today (it needs to be mowed LOL) - not too bad considering I only started this pioneering thing in 2019:

I might get a fence in next year and some raised beds. And God knows, I still need to get a better trailer to live in. I still don't have hot water inside except what I heat on the stove and heat consists of two space heaters. But I'm pretty proud of what I've accomplished so far.

And it's actually an acre and a third. I own a small part on the other side of the road. Beyond that, the land belongs to 5 acres that's already had a house put on it. The person who owned the original house here with the double lot has his second lot right behind mine. To my left is part of another 5 acres that has already had a house put on it way next to my neighbor's double lot. And to my right is the neighbor who stick built his house and is only here once a month. So I have peace and quiet on all sides. I'd love a view but I'll take what I've got. And I was very lucky to get in when I did. Another year and I wouldn't have been able to afford anything anywhere.

You are making progress and know what you want to do. Taking baby steps toward your goals is not a bad strategy. It is how I got my house to the place where it was what I wanted. There are always setbacks, but knowing your goals is the best thing in the end.
