What are the foods -- true, historic, legendary and bogus -- that enhance or induce love?

The thread's title was written with some care to keep out the riffraff, and while we've accepted that some of them are already longtime members, maybe DC can create a G-rated catalog of such food...

I don't really know why, but I can attest to: chocolate. And it seems to be universal.

I'd go for oysters, saffron and watermelon for a desert
but it is all in human mind i beleive :)

Book: Foods of Aphrodite ... Written by: Isabel Allende

Fabulous post ... It is ironic that I have this book, in Spanish in my Library of goodies ...

From my point of view, Aphrodisiacs are subjective like wines, or palates, men, women, song and / or art works.

Mine are:

Lobster, simply boiled and a drizzle of melted French butter
Mussels steamed in white wine
Crevettes, a huge red Prawn from the Brittany, France and Galicia, Spain Atlantic Ocean
Black chocolate Ganache with rose petals
Salmon seared on flame ... no sauce ...
Light, and without alot of sauce, seabass seared on flame
Cod fish seared on flame
A mini portion of Guacamole preferably without a strong onion considering the theme !
Langoustines, a large white prawn from the southern Iberian Atlantic
Red Prawns, a medium size red prawn from the Mediterranean called Gambas
Shrimp, from South America, Mexico and the Caribe
Alaskan wild Red salmon sashimi
Greenland wild Butterfish sashimi
Prosecco white sparkling wine
A Vega Sicilia Red Reserva from Ribera del Duero, Spain
Tropical fruit: mango, papaya, pithaya, coconut from a Green Coconut
Piña Coladas
A Poblano Chili stuffed with Caribbean Shrimp
Hedonistic cuisines: Italian, aromatic spicy Indian, Japanese and French
Aromas such as Cardamom
*** fruits such as: Colanda, Aragón, Spain Peaches
in season which is August ... they are the most fragrant peaches I have had worldwide, and 2nd is Greece. Strawberries in season ... Pears in La Rioja Red Wine ...
Cinammon scented icecream !
Champagne ...
Cava ...
A rare rare prime rib, however, very very very tiny portion served with a Reserva red ...

The lighter the meal, the better ...

Stunner post,
Off top of think tank.
Margi Cintrano.

What ever food your lover really loves. Make that for her and present it in a romantic setting.

I recently asked my DH what was the most memorable thing I have made--his choice was dark chocolate "cups" with homemade peppermint ice cream. And that was so easy--just painted cupcake papers with melted dark chocolate, let those cool, and scooped homemade peppermint ice cream, granished with fresh mint leaves and crushed peppermint candy.

Here's an interesting read.

I'm not a big sweets eater, but I agree with chocolate. For me, it's mostly about color, texture, & aroma.

Souffles - chocolate, plain, cheese
Strawberries, mangos, figs, peaches, watermelon
Avocado
lobster and drawn butter
cheese
ice cream
whipped cream
champagne (maybe it's the bubbles ;))
Mashed potatoes (with lots of butter)
pasta, pasta, pasta

It's hard to fathom, but humanity seems willing to harvest and eradicate some species for their aphrodisiac qualities. In the name of love.
Spork mate I get your drift now I hope, you are refering I presume to the killing of Rhino's for their horn ect.An act that is rendered more barbaric if possible by Viagra.

Wa-a-a-ay back when I was in college, I lived in a ramshackle old three story house on E. Nittany Avenue known as "The Vets House." Like a fraternity house for veterans, only without the fraternity. We had a great kitchen with a huge old Wolf stove..six burners, griddle with broiler under it and two huge ovens. Anything prepared in that kitchen and serve to a woman who lived in the dorms worked. I think that's where I learned to love cooking. ;)

I remember hearing on a radio talk show what not to serve: tacos (too messy), lobster (takes too long to dismember and eat, also messy). Can't remember the other stuff.

There was a really hot movie back in the day where the BF blindfolded the GF and fed her stuff from the fridge, like strawberries dipped in chocolate sauce, while she sat on the floor.

I believe you are referring to 9 1/2 weeks and I was going to mention it earlier but wasn't sure if spork wanted that info in the thread.

You can watch the food scene on youtube if anyone wishes. ^^
