Can't believe a thread hasn't been started yet.

Craig made a simple tomato sauce yesterday at my request. Today, I stirred the last of our nduja into it, then served the sauce over penne, topped with some ricotta mixed with Parm R, plus some extra grated parm. Everything was mixed together to eat.

It would have been better with pecorino romano, but we are out and I forgot to put it on the list so none got bought.

Kinda a mish mosh today, using some leftovers from the previous days. Good, filling and made us happy. Finished the last of the madelines for dessert.

Looks like I'll have to make a strawberry pie tomorrow...as I promised my sweetheat.

We ordered from a local Irish pub. DH had the fish and chips and I had Southern fried chicken tenders with fries and a side of sautéed mushrooms and onion. It was just what we wanted. Too bad we couldn't go to the pub, we are on lockdown and have a curfew as well. They have to do something to get the spread under control.

I have all that butternut squash I wanted to do something with, and I was in the mood for Mexican. So I tossed about 22oz. of the cubes (saved 16 oz for a soup) with just enough oil to coat it, and cooked it in the convection oven for 15 minutes, to dry it out some, and caramelize it some. Meanwhile, I thawed a lb of pork liver, cut it into pieces, , and made a chipotle sauce, with some onions and garlic, and a 28 oz can of crushed tomatoes, plus about 1/4 cup of that salsa negra. I simmered this uncovered, for about 25 minutes, then stirred in the butternut cubes. I made some soft tacos with this, toasting the tortillas, and lining them with some leaf lettuce, before putting the mix on them. It only took 3 to fill me, so I have a number of leftover tacos to make! This is one of the things that will be a good cold dish.

Made IP stew, served with garlic knots. Perfect for an imperfect (cold and drizzly) day.

Ice cream with peach compote for dessert.

I made posole verde using poblano, Anaheim and jalapeño peppers, as well as tomatillos, from the garden. Served it with cheese quesadillas. So good on a cold, drizzly day.

It was a very busy day for me, I had my annual GP appointment,
drove out the the bank to do business there
(that's a 30 minute drive each way),
picked up a coupla things from the market,
had my hair cut (finally) and by this time, I was POOPED!

Along my route is a Chinese Restaurant that we've not tried.
I did a phone-in, curbside pickup and dash.
I ordered your universal, found at any American-Chinese place,
Chicken Chow Mein, can't go wrong there I figured...
sorry no photo, but it was lip smackin' good, :yum:
but really needed more veggies, so I added my own.
This order yielded three very
healthy sized portions, aka breakfast for MOI!

I found this extremely odd:
on the menu they say that there will be a charge of $1/extra plate
to each dish
Every American-Chinese restaurant I've ever been to has always
been served family style. Very large portions placed in the middle of the
table and shared, with a plate for each diner :ermm:
We'd always each, no matter the number of diners,
order a dish and then we'd all share in the feast :glare:
I think we'll stick with takeout orders from there :stuart:

We usually figure we need at least one dish per person, to share. With a group of more than four or five, we sometimes order two of some dish that is popular in the group. So, if we were eating at that place, there would never be an extra dollar added for extra plates. Maybe they were having an issue with people ordering a single serving dish and having more than one person eat it? That would cut into their margins with the extra work for the staff and the dish washing for the kitchen.

We've only had Chinese food here on the Mainland
a handful of times, if that, in the past 13 years.
In the past, DH and I would order 2 maybe
3 different dishes, share and take home the rest.
When I was living with my immediate family,
there would be 4-6 people at the table and we'd
each order something and share, again,
taking home the extra.
Never were we charged $1 for each extra plate...
so an extra $2 for DH and I, $4 - $6 for our whole family.
We'll stick to takeout orders

I doubt they mean it that way. You order your dish and one setting is included. DH orders another dish and another setting is included. Now, you shouldn't have to pay for any more extra plates with extra food items.

Ask them if that is what they mean.

That's what I have experienced.
