Have a lot going on right now and can't seem to get into one of the books I have - I'll take it back. Maybe get something lighter.
Another book I got I've discovered is the 3rd book, not the 1st. 🙄
Think I'll take that one back too. I know most of these in a series can be stand alone stories, just I'd prefer to read them in the proper sequence.

If an author has several books in a series or several different series of books, I go to Bookseriesinorder.com Not only can I keep track of wha tI've read and what's ahead but I also see other books I didn't know about.

There's an old book seller in Colombo who has priceless books. He doesn't know, nobody buys those very old books because they are no use in the contemporary education I guess. For example I bought Alcestis in Greek and English printed in 1928 or somewhere. lol. No use but I couldn't help buying it for 100 LKR which is like 0.34 USD

Some friends had a store where they bought your paperback books from maybe .10¢ or even .20¢ then you could buy some for .50¢. They did very well - were always busy.
I was a frequent customer!

Andy my mistake when taking out the book the other day was for some reason my glasses were left in the car, I was squinting - LOL. Plus a 4 year old was ready to leave...

We're surrounded by used book stores. I'm comfortable reading books on my phone. I can adjust the typeface and size and the brightness. Also, my phone is a lot lighter than a book.

I got hooked on E-readers when we used to go to Aruba every winter. Went to the bookstore to buy a new book I really wanted to read and they were sold out. The clerk suggested an E-reader (Nook) so I bought one, downloaded the book and some others. It was a breeze to carry and pack and read by the pool.

My mom read books on her iPad for years. She could adjust the type size, which was a huge plus for her.

after 2 sentences to have to turn the page is very annoying.
Yeah, but not being able to read at all is worse. My mom can't read a printed paper book anymore. She doesn't spend anything on books anymore, since a few days after she finishes a book, she doesn't remember that she read it. She can read a book 20 times, and it is a new book.

After a while my MIL never spoke but she would watch cartoons on TV and laugh and laugh. Figured as long as she was laughing it was all good.

My mom and my aunt were like that. Of course with them, it was the romance books they used to read and honestly, if anyone can tell the difference between any of the romance books, they get a billion brownie points. But we used to say we could buy a book to give them for Christmas, take it away in March after they were through reading it, and wrap it up and give it to them again the next Christmas. We thought we could save a fortune on presents.

@rodentraiser do you have a kindle?
I don't have one but I downloaded the free app to my laptop and I can read kindle books there.
Unfortunately, yes, I do. I had a friend who thought they were the next best thing to sliced bread and kept after me to get one. I must have told her no a thousand times so what do I get for Christmas? A damn Kindle. This was during covid lock down when I couldn't get to the library.

Then my friend told me of all the wonderful free books on Amazon I could download. Well, what she thinks is wonderful I wouldn't read if you put a gun to my head, so I wasn't real happy with that. In addition, I was living in a trailer with no electricity at the time and no way to charge the Kindle, so then my friend gives me a...super charger. Now I not only have to charge the Kindle, I have to charge the charger as well.

The final insult was when she got me a cover to put on the Kindle. I didn't want the Kindle and I didn't want the cover either, but my friend is determined. Then one day she saw it lying in a drawer and then she found the Kindle lying in a drawer and all hell broke loose.

I absolutely hate it when people give me things I say I don't want and then read me the riot act about being grateful when they give me what I don't want. And I'm not nice about it anymore. No means no. I figure if I've said no half a dozen times and you still persist, it's on you if you find what you've given me completely unused and I won't take being shouted at for your temporary lapse of judgment about what I do and don't like, especially when I've made it so abundantly clear in the first place.

Anyway, we don't talk to one another any more.

@rodentraiser I hear you. I guess your friend forgot that no means no. (and she is not here on earth to teach gratefulness to others) That's a sad way for a friendship to go silent but I certainly understand why. Maybe it needed a breather.

I absolutely hate reading on a Kindle. Plus all their text errors drive me nuts.

My friend and I really don't talk for a couple of reasons. I try to be non-judgmental because she's helped me out in the past so much. But right now, she's going through family problems and their drain field failed and they had to take out a horrendous loan to get it fixed.

If she wants to contact me again, I'm here for her. But I will expect her to respect my boundaries. Otherwise, I'm good.

I have an iPad Air collecting dust in my office. It is basically a large iPhone. It is good for reading books and watching movies on a flight. My sister gave the iPad to me, and she loves hers. But, I prefer to use my MacBook.

Unlike your friend, my sister knows I don't use it, and she's fine with that.

Your post makes it sound like Kindle is responsible for the conversion from paper to electronic. Not the case. ALL books start out electronic and some are printed from that electronic file. Any text errors are the fault of the publisher. Books come to my kindle app from the library which gets them from the publisher.

Having worked for magazines, the conversion from a publishing file to an eBook is a lot more complicated than one would think. I have done it for magazine files, and it was a royal PITA. The files I sent to be printed were huge, so the conversion to eBook has to shrink those files, without sacrificing visual quality. That is something I don't ever want to do again.
