We have a neighborhood kids parade that goes by our house every year. Last year was a rainy week night and we had over 100 trick or treaters. This year with Halloween on a Friday we'll be stocking up for almost double that - especially if it's not rainy.

Every year, trick or treat in our neighborhood is on Halloween night. Unless, like this year, it falls on a Friday. Then they move trick or treat to Thursday.

I don't understand that. Why wouldn't they leave it on a Friday night when the kids don't have to go to school the next day? Is it because of Friday night high school football or something? Makes no sense to me.

Who decides what night is Halloween night? I thought it was always on the 31st.

It is. And Halloween night is usually always trick or treat night in our neighborhood. Unless it's on a Friday. If it falls on a Friday, like this year, they make trick or treat night on the 30th. And I don't get why.

As to who decides it, I have no idea. Different areas of our city are assigned nights for the kids to be out.

This thread is more popular now than when I started it last year. :ROFLMAO:

Trick or treating is done at the local mall in Frisco. The stores hand out candy.

Sounds nice and safe, but not very exciting. Part of the allure of trick or treating is going house to house, walking in crunchy leaves, seeing all the Halloween decorations, etc.

Only exciting thing for the kids is the CANDY! Adults may enjoy the other stuff but the kids really couldn't care less,

Friday - just the candy, Ma'am.
only the candy, nothing but the candy.

Halloween is a celebration that has only really been promoted in Australia over the last two decades or so. It’s not really a big thing here.
We’ve only ever had one knock on our door for trick or treating and we had some sweets in the house anyway.
Every year since, we get a bag of treats which end up in MrJade’s tummy 🤣

Up here, the week after Halloween is when you want to stock up on your favorite candies, while they are half price in the stores.

I shall correct myself - the kids love the costume part as well!

although I must admit, there are times it is sometimes hard to tell if it is 'dress-up' or they're everyday clothes.

LOL, I love that cartoon.

I beg to differ, though, that kids couldn't care less about the other stuff. My son, when he was little (dang I miss those days) loved to see the lighted pumpkins and the Halloween displays. In our neighborhood, people are crazy for Halloween and go all out with deco and making graveyards and full blown haunted houses that the kids can walk through. My son was so attracted to that stuff that I sometimes had to remind him to go get his candy before we would move on to the next house :ROFLMAO:

Yeah, you're right - I stand corrected again! (this seems to becoming a trend with me 🤭) I took 2 of the grands' for a walk. He turned and ran first so she followed. She would have gone right up to the dinosaur hatching and kissed its nose.
I think he ran because I was telling them to act scared for the camera... his idea of scared is to run!

About 20 years ago, we did a grownup trick-or-treat with a bunch of our neighbors after all the kids were home for the night. We went to each others house for snacks and drinks... in costumes. One couple came dressed a HS coach and a pregnant cheerleader (the wife was really pregnant at the time -- she didn't drink alcohol, of course). :ROFLMAO:
