I started as a lowly apprentice in the big five star hotel in my town. And the coffee hotel wide was an abomination. Drip filter, the cheapest around and just awful.
I was assigned to the breakfast shift and I remember banging on about how bad the coffee was.
My F&B Director didn’t care. He had garnered the best deal with the supplier and the GM loved him for his cost saving measures.
Anyway, I moved on to another of my town’s five stars, and there the GM was really hands on. I said that the coffee was crap there as well, and he agreed. Before I knew it, he had installed big barista machines everywhere and all the staff had trained in good coffee. He insisted that no extra charge would be required for a really good coffee.
The hotel was soon the highest rated in my town and although I think it was probably more due to the GM being focused on the highest quality all across the board, I do remember seeing a lot of feedback about how good the coffee was.
Discuss.

i don't go away often but when I do, i absolutely remember the coffee. I often stand in line to get an indiviudal, fancy coffee from the machine rather than whatever is brewed for breakfast for everyone.

Hello, i'm not quite sure if this is the right forum for this but I figured I would give it a shot. I travel for work i have a 7 on and 7 off schedule. I'm in hotels for all of these days for one night then I go to a different city and do it again. I have been packing the 1zpresso x-ultra hand grinder and a packable pour over brewer. My problem is there is often no way to heat up water and if there is, the paper cups in hotel rooms often say not microwave safe.

My question is, is there a packable reliable means of heating up water for coffee brewing? This device has to be electric not gas and it has to fit in a small carry on that is already pretty full. Or a microwave safe reusable cup would also work to use to heat water when i'm in a room with a microwave which is not often so the former would be preferable.

For some context I have tried the portable espresso machine from outin and its great but its too big for my luggage when i carry the hand grinder.

Thanks in advance any help would be appreciated

There are various styles of portable immersion water heaters. Some have multiple plugs. Check with Amazon.

You could try an electric silicon kettle. I've never used one but they look promising. If you know you will have a microwave available all the time you can carry a silicon cup to microwave your water in.

OMG! that's amazing! 😂 Who'duh thunk! 😂 Amazon!

I think that coil, immersion heater is the one that will fit best in hand luggage. I remember my mum using one of those in hotels as long ago as the 1950s.

When I was travelling and staying in hotels a lot, I used to bring a small electric skillet (something like 8"x 8" plus handle). It was a little tricky pouring boiling water into my Mellita filter to make coffee, but it had the advantage that I could also cook in it.

LOL - I still have one of those "coil" contraptions my Dad used to travel with. and I first saw it back in the 50's sometime!
Probably in storage, not even sure it works. Why did i keep it... well, you never know when you want to boil some water!

thank you so much for your suggestion

Hotels out here most often served Farmer Bros. At least the hotels that were my customers did.
Absolutely fantastic. A popular company.

A local coffee supply company that when the owner passed away the quality backed into hell.
Better when the old man ran it.

Don’t see their delivery trucks around town anymore either.
