How to replace oil in oil core skillet?

My husband and I purchased a 12" Salad Master oil core skillet at a yard sale. We love the skillet and cook almost everything in it. But the handle (plug) that holds in the oil broke and some oil leaked out. We need this repaired. We called SaladMaster, but got a "We can't help you" answer. We even made sure they understood that we would PAY someone to fix the skillet. We even asked if we could just purchase the oil and handle (plug) and try to fix it ourselves They couldn't be bothered since we didn't buy it from them and they would not reveal their trade secret to what kind of oil they used. So I searched and found this forum...Do you know of ANYONE that can repair these skillets? Any comments welcome.

I have never heard of this skillet. What exactly is it? I am guessing there is internal oil that helps to transfer the heat. Am I close?

Yes, this is a very good quality electric skillet usually sold door to door and at trade shows. These are made from surgical stainless steel, double walled, with some type of oil sandwiched between. Electricity heats oil so that entire skillet is the same temperature. Extremely easy to clean and cooks at very even temperatures. This link shows one called Versa Touch Electric Skillet. LINK REMOVED Ours is older, but works on same principal. They sell for $300+ from manufactor. Expensive, but well worth the money. Search on E-bay for "oil core skillet". They are available used.

On their website they do have replacement parts in their customer care section, including handles and replacement oil. It's not cheap though, youch

The oil chamber is filled with high temperature silicone heat transfer fluid. I'm going to try DOT 5 brake fluid. I'll post results.

I used DOT 5 brake fluid (not DOT 5.1 which is NOT silicone). It seems to work fine. My appliance has a slight hum, which might indicate damage to the heating element from being operated dry. So far, no other issues.
