I ate cheese and then a strawberry afterwards and had an awful aftertaste

It depends on what kind of cheese you had eaten. something like a hunk of gorgonzola or french blue cheese followed by sweet fresh strawerries would surely make you spew, meanwhile mascarpone, with its mild, rich creaminess, is considered an indispensable ingredient to prepare tiramisu. what kind of cheese was it?

it was a brie like cheese. like in the photo..

I thought the same. Or maybe a soft ripened cheese.

I teach (or rather taught) wine and food pairing classes at one time. Granted, pairing wine isn't the same as pairing a strawberry, but these types of rules apply for flavors in general. One of the pairing rules is that pungent/strong flavors, such as what you'd find in ripe cheeses, are best complimented by pairing with sweet flavors such as honey or a dessert wine. A strawberry, while somewhat sweet, isn't sweet enough to pull off this flavor combination.
