I got a gift basket for Christmas that had about 6 pounds of bacon. :pig: I am just about out of ideas for ways to use it and am hoping for some help. Besides frying some up what can I do with it? I have a lot of odds and ends around my house, so any ideas would be well appreciated!

Quiche? Bacon cheese burgers... Try going to allrecipes.com and doing an ingredient search with bacon

What I really want to do is make a main dish using bacon. This sounds so unhealthy now that I type it, but it is what it is. Anyone ever made a main dish centered on bacon?

Not a main dish, but I've eaten 1lb at one sitting... of course it was wrapped around some shrimp, so it wasn't hard

My local grocer had a book by the cash register, 88 ways to use bacon, or something like that. It had some different uses, but none as a main component.

Wrapped around asparagus, too! That could probably be cooked/roasted in the oven if you don't grill in this weather. mmmm
Sprinkle some room temp bacon with some seasoning, lemon pepper or Italian work well, wrap it around the asparagus, seasoning in, and grill indirect or roast in the oven. The room temp bacon will help it stretch and stick to itself.

In our world, bacon (like cheese) is a food "bandaid". It can "fix" anything. Add bacon to just about any main dish and it gets better.

- fry a bit with your ground beef for a bolognese sauce
- dice and fry and top salads
- marinate chicken breast chunks in teriyaki, wrap bacon around, skewer them and broil
- bacon cheeseburger meatloaf (link in Andy's post) is KILLER good
- saute a bunch of diced up bacon, layer it with hashbrown potatoes, cheese (cream cheese too I think) some eggs and you have a great casserole
- quiche lorraine

I can think of more, but this might be a good start. Just remember bacon lasts a LONG time in the freezer. If you aren't hurting for room, let it be and use it as you need it.

This was good, The recipe came with that bacon book.
I halved it.

Ingredients
2 lg sweet onions
6 strips bacon cut in half
1/2c packed brown sugar
1/2c balsamic vinegar
1/4c molasses
2 TBS BBQ sauce

Preparation
skin and cut the onion into 12 wedges
Wrap bacon around each wedge and secure with a toothpick
place in a container to marinate in

Combine the rest of the ingredients and pour over the wrapped onions.
Cover and refrigerate for one hour, flipping once.

Grill til done, about 15-20 minutes, flipping and basting often

What ever you do, just make sure so save some for fresh tomatoes this spring. BLT's are the best then!

Ever had "pig candy"? I use the smoker but oven would work, too. Just put the bacon on the grill/smoker and put on some brown sugar on top. Plenty sweet for me, but I'll eat it.:)

Also try wrap'n corn on the cob w/bacon, just wrap it around a nibbler(1/2 cob) and put on the grill/smoker till done(or oven).

Bacon wrapped steaks. Bacon wrapped poultry. BBQ's beans.

have fun!
