They would assemble the dog and then place it in this oven and hit it with steam.

POOF! POOF!

It was enough to melt the cheese while not making the bun too soggy.

I want to do this at home. Does anyone here know of a method or home device that can replicate this result?

I'm looking at this hotdog bun and weiner steamer, but I'm not sure if it could melt the cheese in time before the bun got soggy

Cook the hot dog.
Place the hot dog into a bun.
Add the chili and the cheese.
Place the completed chili cheese dog in a plastic zipper bag with a few drops of water, but leave the zipper unsealed.
Microwave at 10 second intervals until the bun is steamed and the cheese is melted.
Now, make me one!

I don't have a microwave...

Maybe parchment paper and into the oven? Or foil?
Leaving it partially open for steam to get out.

I don't have so don't know but perhaps an air fryer should also work.

Do you have a clothes steamer?

Just put the poor dog with his cheesy coat in a steamer with a lid in the oven. Don't forget to boil the water in the steamer first. :-p

So I went ahead and ordered a nifty YOSUKATA lid to compliment my wok. I also ordered some cooling/cooking racks off of Anmazon. I am going to try to steam the dogs this way, in my wok covered on some racks. Wish me luck
