Ideas for plain shredded wheat biscuits?

Basically Frosted Mini Wheats - without the frosting.

I have two boxes of these things. And while I don't mind eating plain shredded wheat (sometimes I'll just snack on them straight out of the box) I'd really love some different ideas on what to do with them. Eaten as a cereal with added ingredients perhaps? Or maybe using them in some type of recipe?

As a courtesy from my Medicaid benefits case worker, and also because I am now officially an old fart (I'm 61) I got a monthly "commodities box" and that's how I end up with some ingredients, like this cereal, that I have no idea what to do with. And I hate throwing out food. So I want to find other yummy ways to use this shredded wheat.
 
I like mine in a bowl with milk, fruit (usually either sliced bananas or blueberries) and chopped walnuts. Also might add some flax seeds.
 
I like as cereal with just milk, but I'm weird. You can also make your own "Chex mix" and use them in that. And of course, just plain snacking on them is pretty good. I was watching something on TV and they were talking about "tough guys". One of them said something about Mike Hammer being really tough. "He eats Shredded Wheat dry." I looked at my hand in the box of Shredded Wheat that I was snacking on. Hmm, does that mean that I am tough? I do believe the character on TV meant the big Shredded Wheat, the ones that are about two inches wide and 3-4 inches long. Yeah, if those are dry, the shreds will come apart and poke you in the gums. My mum used to eat them with butter, sort of like a weird cracker. It tastes pretty good. I have never tried buttering the little ones.

I thought I was the only one that liked shredded wheat!

I first came to love it as a very little kid in Minneapolis when my mom would put it in a bowl and pour hot milk and syrup over it before sending me off to school when it was -minus 10 degrees and I needed the warmth and energy to walk 10 blocks to school and I was 6. True.
 
I like them with a sprinkle of Splenda and almond milk.

If you Google shredded wheat recipes you will find recipes for cookies, muffins, coating for fish, chicken, etc…
 
All I can think of is any dried fruit.
Or make one of those party mix things and give them as Christmas goodies.

Crush the flakes into crumbs and use them instead of breadcrumbs for frying chicken fillets or vegetables
 
They aren't flakes. They would break into small chunks and little sticks.
Good catch. I missed that. Not sure if they would work as a coating. I normally use bread crumbs (panko or regular) or crushed corn flakes for that kind of stuff.
 
I think it would sort of work, but large or small crush? Think the taste of the shreddies would make it much more "meatier"?
 
My first thought was to coat them with some spice mix of some sort, but I don't know how well they will stick to it, since it's not a fried thing. But maybe some would get into the mini biscuits.

That's possible. But, more than likely, I wouldn't try it as a coating for frying things. I've already got my usuals for that and I'd be afraid of it not turning out right.
 
oh dear . . . 60+ years of lovin' shredded wheat . . .
okay, I'm weird . . . did a Norwegian of cork flakes drown in "quark" - still recovering from that . .

during 'hot times' aka summer - it's crumbled bars in milk, with 'soak' time.

adding fruits is always a good thing.
in cooler/winter - a bowl with milk, 60-70 secs in the microwave. add fruit topping . . .

so far as 'other dishes' methinks I've done more with crushed corn flakes than shredded wheat . . . but the idea is germinating as we go into 'winter'
 
I certainly don't think it will go any soggier than most bread crumbs, that stuff is crunchy! Plus I don't pan fry much or deep fry at all. Was actually thinking of 'oven fried' things.

But my all time favourite is the original Shredded Wheat. Two biscuits, crunched just a little bit, add hot milk and yum! Used to be my go to breakfast during winter.
 
Being from Niagara Falls, the ancestral home of shredded wheat, I have noticed that people have lots of different ways of eating it. For example, my parents. My mother crushed the biscuits into a bowl with her bare hands, poured hot milk over them, then added sugar to taste. My father, however, would place the whole biscuits into a bowl, run hot tap water over them, drain them, then add cold milk and sugar. Either of these methods would work with Nabisco shredded wheat and Quaker's Muffets shredded wheat, but only my father's method would work with Weetabix, a British/Australian version of shredded wheat.

I would definitely prefer your mom's method.

I love Frosted Mini Wheats. I remember how I ate them as a kid. My mom would put them in a bowl and cover them with milk, then give me the bowl with a spoon. I would pick up the ones on top of the pile (that weren't soaked in milk yet) and then get a spoonful of milk and drop the milk down inside one end of the biscuit, to get the milk inside of it, then pop it in my mouth.

I did weird things with food when I was a kid. I would eat Beefaroni, one noodle at a time, and just slide it down my throat without chewing it, pretending I was the lazy cat in a Looney Tunes cartoon (Dodsworth) that would drop sardines down his throat saying "You know, one of these days I'm going to have to buy me a mouse trap."

And when it came to pizza, I would peel everything off the slice (including the cheese and sauce) and just eat the crust. To this day I don't like pizza that is too heavily sauced and I don't like a lot of cheese.
 
@Sir_Loin_of_Beef the hot water way was exactly how my father did it! and how he taught me. Been using a microwave and straight milk for so long I'd completely forgotten.
We also had on occasion the Muffets and Wheetabix but neither were my favourites.
