Hello from 30-something thousand feet. My customer mentioned meeting up for dinner tonight, so maybe I'll get good food, and not pay for it. He lives in Kirkland, so he should know what is good.

Well, Kirkland is north of the city, so if you can find a good place to eat there, I think that's better than driving into Seattle and fighting with the traffic and the parking.

Hmmm...we had a customer come into the Seattle store where I worked one day and place an order for The Kells. I was filling out the form and asked the last name, as usual. The guy told me and started to spell it, but I had the whole thing spelled correctly before he finished. It's not a common name, not pronounced what it looks like, and is a weird spelling.

He looked at me and I looked at him and said, "That's my last name, too." I didn't know him from Adam.

So maybe by putting The Kells restaurant here, I summoned some ghosts of my ancestors by accident.

I see the same thing in Colorado. The hotel I stay at in SW Denver metro when I'm in town for golf tournaments is non-smoking, and a similar sign is on the check-in desk and on the vanities in each room. They also have you sign a pledge not to smoke in the room (both regular tobacco and wacky tobacky - this is after all, Colorado ), and will charge the added fee to your bill if you do. It's pleasant to be able to walk into a room that doesn't smell of tobacco or a mix of smoke and air/fabric deodorizer.

Even bars and casinos are nonsmoking here, and they are trying to pass an ordinance prohibiting smoking on the 16th Street Mall in downtown Denver. The Mall is basically just several blocks of a street that's closed to traffic except for electric shuttle buses, but it's all outdoors. I think that one might have a fight to get passed, but then what do I know. I'm 150 miles away and don't really have an iron in that fire.

I wish they would place restriction on drinking like they do on smoking. Higher taxes to start with. If they made liquor prices rise as fast as tobacco does, you just might see a decrease in the number of families wiped out by someone who drove drunk. How often do you hear of a family member smoking a cigarette and then beating the daylights out of the wife and kids?

Wouldn't do much I'm afraid...Our booze is three times the price and we still have lots of drunk related accidents..just had 4, 18 year old boys destroy their lives a few days ago after a night of drinking and getting behind the wheel...
