a plug adapter for a car that can handle a slow cooker?

I was thinking of making a meal to take on a 6 or even 8 hour trip. Start everything in the house and have it ready when we arrive.

Is there such a thing?

my slow cooker is 120V 60Hz 1200W

Look for an inverter.
There are plenty that will exceed 1200w.

oh boy.... gobbledy-gobble-gook speak.
So what specifically am I looking for in the descriptions?
They do not use the phrase "good for charging your... at 1200 watts".

Some say 150W, 200W, 300W highest I've see is 500W - but that's not telling me they can power 1200W. They all say DC 12V to 110 AC but sorry, that doesn't mean anything to me.

Pricing starts at about 30$ up to over 100$. If I get that high in price I might as well just pick-up some take-out from Rocklobster or Pictonguy and wrap it in a lot of foil and stick it under the hood of the car. 🤭

Assuming that your slow cooker runs on standard household current, an inverter is the right answer if you want to use it in your car. This is a device the inverts DC current into AC. They come in different sizes and rise in price as the wattage goes up.

Your vehicles cigarette lighter has a limit to the amount of amps it can deliver. It's more than likely a fused circuit. It will blow the fuse before it damages anything. That said, use the crock pot on the LOW setting.

When shopping there is no need to spend big $$$ on a "pure sine wave" type. This is for sensitive electronics. A crock pot doesn't need such clean power.

Here's my page on Amazon ca reflecting Canadian Prices. That's OK, still cheap enough.
I can always get the cooker going in the house first to be sure it gets to the required temperature - then transfer it to the car.

My next decision is - will this ever be used again? LOL - it is not like I travel very much anymore. Perhaps my sons would use for going to the cottage.

Your slow cooker is going to draw too much power for your car, and even if you find a sufficient inverter, it will probably cost more than it's worth. Truckers have special cookers that they use in their rigs. Here is a link to one of them. If you do more searching, you can find more. Canadian Tire probably has some, too.

aside from getting 1200 watts thru a cigarette lighter socket . . .

car alternators are not designed to produce that amount of power over long periods.
the alternator will burn out, and it's cheaper to eat out than a new alternator.

My son & his partner of 10 years are having a civil wedding on Saturday. The day that both his sisters & I arrive late afternoon. Son has 2 teenagers + moi + 2 sisters + themselves = 7 people. I'm not going to ask her to prepare a meal for 7 the day of her nuptials! Nor do I think anyone will really want to go out to eat - Whole family will be doing lunch out on Sunday.

I just thought it would be nice if we walked in with a hot meal in our arms.
Have often walked in with a meal ready to cook but never with a meal ready to plate! LOL!

I believe Costco has a good Shepherds Pie and/or a Lasagna, guess I could cart one of those up in a cooler no problem.
Have a lot on my plate the days leading up to it - but throwing things into a SlowCooker is easily done (with the right choice).

Although not looking forward to the actual drive due to back/hips/feet - chatting with my daughter's whom I haven't see for 5 years will help alleviate that.
