Hello, seeking advice from anyone having experience with wireless meat temperature probes that you leave in the meat throughout the cooking process, monitoring internal temperature on external display or in app. Researching various brands and models, the most common complaints seem to be short lifespan and inconsistent performance generally.

Is anyone here aware of a consensus among chefs and cooking enthusiasts as to the best brand or model to invest in? I’m hoping to order something today while Cyber Monday sales are happening. Any suggestions or feedback much appreciated!!

If memory serves, think most here seem to favour probes with wires. I know I have one - don't use it anymore but quite liked it. Sorry can't supply the brand.
I rather think you should probably stick with popular name brands. Go to the sites advertiing them and read the reviews.
Start with the bad reviews. If they specify what is wrong and not just saying 'nasty, horrid, hate it, etc. They usually are very indicative of what to expect.

Example - I almost bought a fridge from Costco at an incredible price... until I read the reviews. Not a single good review - nothing but complaints. Unbelievable. It was a real eye opener!

Edit:
Better hope some post soon, not giving anyone too much time. It's almost 8pm my time now, 5pm yours?

I have a Meater brand wireless thermometer, and HATE it! I have to have my iPhone within two feet or less, or it won't connect. Half the time, it doesn't work AT ALL!!! I could put my phone inside the oven or smoker, and it wouldn't connect.

I contacted them three times, and figured out that they don't care one iota about customer satisfaction. The only mails I get from them are trying to sell me more of their crappy thermometers.

Stay away from MEATER... very far away.

I have a wired probe thermometer, and my pellet smoker came with one built in. They both connect to iPhone apps. Both work much better than the Meater wireless bluetooth thermometer.

My unscientific theory is that the wireless probe inside of a steel oven, grill or smoker just kills the Bluetooth signal.

Maybe I'm acting dense, but why do you need Bluetooth if the probe is wired?

The probe is wired to a box outside of the oven/grill/smoker, and that box transmits to your phone via Bluetooth. They work pretty well. Still not as long a distance as a WiFi connected system would work in my house, but much better than my Meater direct from wireless probe to phone does.

If you have something in your smoker you don't want to have to sit beside it or or keep running out to it for 4 hours. You can stay inside and watch the football game, bake that batch of cookies and peel the potatoes for salad, etc You can just look at your phone to keep an eye on the temp.

D'oh! Of course, it's for the convenience of seeing your temps wherever, well, within Bluetooth range. That box that sits near the smoker/grill/oven, does it have a readout, or does one need to use a phone or other Bluetooth enabled device, to see the temperature?

The transmitter does have its own simple readout.

The app runs on either my iPhone or iPad. The use the same operating system.

Hello and thanks for the feedback. I ended up buying two devices on Amazon, the Chef IQ 3 probe device and the Typhur 2 probe device, links below:

  2. https://a.co/d/fUoprLj
The Chef IQ device was delivered 4 days ago so we've had the opportunity to try it twice, once with steaks and once with lamb chops, and it worked really great! So far we love it. The Typhur just came today and we haven't used it yet. Maybe tomorrow.

Will report back once we've had time to give them both a decent try out. Cheers!
