I know I'm late to the party, but have all y'all seen the Chef Preserve Vacuum Sealer advertised on TV?

Abou a hunderd years ago I had something quite similar to that, but the bags weren't reuseable. I can't even remember the brand name of it. When they stopped manufacturing the bags I was stuck with a vacuum pump with nothing to suck on! I ended up giving it to the Starvation Army during one of my many moves.

Re-ordering is easy! We include all relevant website links on your packaging, so you’ll never forget where to order replacement bags.

Oh yeah, they won't tell you how much their proprietary bags are going to cost you going forward. That sounds like a scam if I ever heard one.

They sell bags on Amazon, which sells just about everything, and they're $32.99 for 40 in four assorted sizes and $59.99 for 80 in four assorted sizes.

I only paid about 20 bucks American for mine, but that was 1980s money. I don't know if the current $74 price is equivalent, but Wally World has several handheld units for less than that.

thats not the case with chamber vac's i can use any bags on the market but they do make some that are specific to chamber vac's but i have tried them and can't tell any difference . the ones i like are the clear with a black back

I wish they could make a vacuum sealer that will seal ANY plastic bag.
Ie: the bag that frozen chips or veggies come in. Potato chips, lollies, dried spices…any and all bags!

I seal all of those bags! Any cheap hot wire sealer will do it.
I seal my chip bags, frozen vegie bags, cellophane bags (like dry pasta comes in) All of it. If it can be heat sealed a hot wire sealer will do it.

I've seen and been thinking about for years this little single hand held sealer you just run/slide across the bag to seal. Thought they might be a rip-off but now wondering....

I'll try to find a picture or make for you.

probably a better idea. Although you can easily spend more than 2 maybe even $300 on a fancier one.
None of these have a vacuum but you don't need that for chips or vegies or crackers, etc.

The top one looks like a hair straightener and the bottom one looks like a stapler, which I am sure would also work to seal bags.

Now you have me imagining all those people who learned the hard way not to use the vacuum part of the vacuum sealer for chips and crackers. It's probably fine to use the vacuum part a little bit.

When I first got my Food Saver, like everyone, I had to seal everything I could get my hands on "just to see". One of them was sliced provolone. Sealed it beautifully, into one solid lump of cheese. There's a reason they package them with that little thin piece of paper between the slices! LOL

I probably use my sealer 2 - 3 times a week. This is my original one, from the late 70's(?). I still use the vacuum on it but it isn't very good - don't care. But the hot wires - as said, 2 - 3 times a week.
