Just wanted to say hello...I'm new to this forum, consider myself a decent home cook and wanting to learn more. I love to Grill, smoke,bake....you name it! Just received my new KitchenAid stand mixer today...looking forward to putting it to use😜

You're going to love your mixer and you'll find lots of recipes here giving you a chance to utilize it.... or not! However you like to cook! LOL
 
Thanks to both of you! I'm really excited to get using it, I have wanted one for a long time and finally took the plunge. I picked up the Artisan mini 3.5 qt ....it's only me so I figured large enough
 
Good for you. When I made the plunge for one I got the big one, but at the time I was often entertaining and cooking with friends. Now I don't and am even reduced to using my stick blender a lot. Am constantly being amazed at what that little guy can do! So I've given the big one to my DIL - it is just upstairs if I need it! LOL
 
That's great to hear! I'm definitely going to put it to work...I love the smaller size too, fits perfectly under the cabinet
 
LOL ahhh, funny you should mention that! Mine had to stay on the counter, was too big/heavy/awkward to put in a cupboard.
But that was OK - I loved - it even though I didn't have a super amount of counter space.
 
'Allo & welcome! About that stand mixer: I bought one a few years ago because I was making lots and lots of cookies for work at the time, and a stand mixer makes cookies a lot faster and easier. But beware: you have to maintain it. It needs to be oiled every now and then, or at least every other now and then. Mine sits on the counter now unused. Also, the meat grinder attachment I purchased off Amazon was pure rubbish - it snapped and had to be thrown out! So, I advise you to take care of your Kitchen-Aid or you'll be hunting for a repair shop in a year or two.

I used to have a 4½ qt KA, I got in '76 for Christmas, and a friend still has it to this day! (I got a 6 qt one, to make larger recipes in!) I found that good for bread recipes from 6-6½ c flour (any more, and I had to hold the dough in the bowl with a spatula), so that should be good for 4½-5 c flour in the recipes. And I'd be able to make 1½ standard cookie recipes, using 1½ sticks butter, and 3 c flour, so you should have no problems with 1 stick butter and 2 c flour. Might be able to do 1½, but when these things get overloaded, the dough tends to climb the hook or paddle. And hopefully the mixer came with the scraper paddle - something that is attached to a paddle, to scrape the bowl, while beating.

I still have my KA stand mixer, but rarely use it these days. Once I got my Ankarsrum it quickly became my favorite stand mixer. And, it is much lighter so carrying it is not such a task.
 
I have a 4.5 qt from the 80's. It started racing last year, I replaced an electrical board in it, now it runs fine again. (youtube)
I used to have 3 kids at home, lots of things to make for a family of 5. Now I use it to make whole wheat bread once every week or so for the 2 of us. I have an attachment for rolling pasta and I make ww lasagna noodles and dry them and use those instead of buying. The whisk, for nougat at christmas for gifts.

That's good to know. I have been lusting after an Ankarsrum for a few years. At the moment, I don't have a stand mixer, but I don't really miss it. I used to use it once a year to make sponge cake for my Yule trifle. I won't be buying an Ankarsrum until I find a place to store it. My kitchen is overcrowded and some stuff is already in the dining room.
