I have a few graters, from micro on up. I really mostly use the box grater on the large side, rarely the others.
To wash I just rub the sponge or cloth in the opposite direction and although it may take several swipes it does the job just fine.

I have a flat one as well. Had the same problem with box graters and the 'food towers', so I prefer the flat one, which I can just set down into (or over) a bowl and the grated food goes where I want it to.

Plus, I don't have a dishwasher, so getting all the little bits of food out of the box grater was kind of a pain.
I had forgotten what a nuisance they are to wash. Now I have a flat one that has grater, shredder and slicer sections. I also have two paddle style shredders with different sizes of holes and a paddle style Microplane.

A while ago I got tired of poking at ground beef with a spatula in a skillet to break it up. I ordered a plastic meat chopper. I used it for the first time tonight and I was amazed at how well it works. In expensive and effective. Great buy.

I've thought about buying one of those, but I'm so used to using my spatula that I didn't really see the need to spend money on one. Might go ahead and buy one, just to try it.

Which one did you get? I'm seeing some as low as a couple of bucks and others are as much as $10 to $15.

I bought one, and haven't used it, yet. I haven't had a need to use it, yet.

I have been using Kenji's method of using a pastry cutter. I'm still deciding if I like it. It works quite well, but some of the meat gets stuck between the tines (or whatever they are called on a pastry cutter) and has to be pushed out. At least it's something I already had and didn't spend any money to find out if I like it.

Think I mentioned earlier(?) I tried the potato mashers (2 styles) and didn't like using either one. Love my two wood spatuala, two handed, a satisfying chop-chop karate style attack. It's great! It's fast! It works!
Also works to pick-up and stir fry style the meat around the pan to the best area in which to do the chop-chop, the middle.

Andy, gal pal had one of those and I used it. Nope, personally I really don't think it's faster. Guess it's a matter of all in the eye hand of the beholder.

On the farm i had 3 utensil crocks. One for wooden spoons, one for whisks, and one for spatulas (metal & rubber).

Now I barely have room for one - so I have to choose carefully what goes in. 😁

I'll have to give your method a try. I really don't want to have an extra tool crowding my utensil crock just for chopping up ground meat.

You might also try a mezzaluna?

Goodness, I'd never use my mezzaluna in a frying pan to chop/separate while cooking ground beef!
Nor an ulu, if I had one. Almost got one for skinning.
