The only kind I have mailed I made in a disposable pan and decorated it right in the pan. Then I wrapped it with cardboard on the top so nothing would bother the decorations. Next I wrapped it in bubble wrap and then into the shipping box. It arrived at my son's college dorm in great shape. It was Feb. And we are in Colorado, so it didn't get too warm.

I'm more amazed than anything that there was actually a helpful response on this subject. I can't quite imagine a successful cake-mailing. I imagine something more like cake-like-goop in a box.

I've only sent bundt cakes, but have done that very successfully. We purchased special mailing boxes that fit well and all the cakes arrived in one piece and un-squashed.
