I've had Hormel canned tamales. They fill the belly, and don't degust me. I grew up on Derby brand jarred tamales. It's what my Dad always bought. Again, they fill the belly. Some store brand frozen tamales, in corn husks are sometimes pretty good.
A canned tamale I'd never had was Nally's brand. Those were without a doubt, the worst tamales I've eaten. The masa coating was flavorless. I couldn't taste the nixtamalized corn flavor at all. The filling, it was pasty in texture, again so very bland, that though there was a reasonable amount, you couldn't taste it. Potted meat, and canned Vienna sausages have both better texture, and flavor,
I looked at the ingredient list on the can. Beef was the second ingredient, followed by rolled oats. I suspect that beef means beef fat. Even the sauce was ho-hum.
In the words of Kleenex, "A big thumbs down!" IMHO, on a scale of 1 to 10, these get a minus 2.
