Need help using Wordpress

I use Wordpress for my cooking blog. A DC member just looked at it and said it was very good, but needed an index. There is a limited index already built in, but is hard to navigate, as it shows only a few subjects. Does anyone have experience creating indexes in Wordpress? If so, instruction would be greatly appreciated.
