BBQ in Alaska? Come on...stop pulling my leg [-X . No but really, besides the WSM what smoker is the most popular or for that matter available up thar? Any interesting custom Alaskan rigs. Maybe with 1" oil pipeline chambers?

Actually the sad truth is we have no native hardwoods in Alaska. Hence stick burners won't make it here. Consequently a wsm is the only option I see. The only way I can see low and slow is with a wsm and it does GREAT. I do envy you guys who have the option. Living where I do I've never made it to a competition but the pics I've seen have lot o' wsm's.

Oh yeah, we really won't cut alaska in half.

I'm a stick man myself, but one of these days you guys will figure it all out. It's not the pit, but the pit master. I made great 'Q for years on a ECB. The only problem is that class of pit can't put out the quanity of the bigger trailers. They can and often do win at comps.

Here's one I built a few years ago. It has an ash pan under the
fire grate that gives the barrel a double bottom. I made the cooking
grate in 3 pieces for easy fire access. No welding required, I used
treaded pipe for the legs. It cooks excellent BBQ and holds temps at
225* to 250* for 3+ hours on the small chimney of coals.
