I've never used a pressure cooker and I now realize that I would benefit a lot, mostly on the time aspect. I never trusted them to begin and that has stuck with me and now with the newer electric cookers the chances of an accident or defect are pretty much non existent. I want your opinion on which one to purchase. Budget is 300 max. Thanks for your participation.:)

I'm pretty happy with my Instant Pot. It seems to be the standard.
I had one from QVC years ago that was digital and it worked great, too. Fool proof.

I don't utilize it as much as I could. I don't really use it to save time on rice or beans or spaghetti with sauce, as it takes a while for the pressure to build up and the timer to start. But for cuts of meat that benefit from slow cooking and moisture, or starting a chicken soup with the bird and the veggies, it works great and cuts time.

We used to use pressure cookers frequently in the kitchen but haven't been using them much lately. Since I retired I'm just not in that much of a hurry. We keep a multifunction in the RV that serves as both slow cooker and pressure cooker. We don't have room for a one-trick-pony in there.

Read the instructions fully. Understand how the pressure release mechanism works. If that gets clogged and pressure over builds....adios muchachos.

All I can say is that since I got my pressure cooker I haven't looked back. I was pretty nervous of it at first, but now I am completely used to it. I find it brilliant for tenderising tough cuts of meat (not to mention chicken legs and thighs). The one I got (from Lakeland) came with a separate glass lid which means it is (1) A pressure cooker (2) a stove top saucepan, and (3) a ovenable casserole dish, so it earns its keep in terms of saving space as well as doing a great job of pressure cooking.

Lagostina Canada has one on sale on their website. Made in Italy.

You’ll figure them out in no time. The trick is not to over cook things.
I’ve disintegrated a few meals when I first started using mine.

My mom had an Aldi pressure cooker (electric) for like 8 years and she loved it. Me and her used that thing so much. After it broke, I got an instapot like 11 in 1 pressure cooker and I use it fairly regularly, but not for the things I thought I would.

I thought I'd use it tons for meat, and while I do sometimes, I use it so much for beans! It's like the only way I cook beans. Dried beans cook way faster in the pressure cooker (like 30 minutes as opposed to 1-3 hours) so I love it for that.)

And the rice function on it sucks, so I don't use that and instead use a pot/my rice cooker.

Keep in mind that I have a dual personality: I'm sadistic and masochistic.

Before I consider a recommendation, what size of pressure cooker do you hope to get? There are some other things such as an insta-pot that gives you a pressure cooker plus more if you don't want a humongous one.

So why the above statement? When I was a teen, my mother and I were scrubbing walls in her kitchen. She had a chicken in the cooker that was happily tsh-tshing as we cleaned. Suddenly, the thing sounded like a buzzer that started ramping up. The pressure cooker started to spin on the stove and then it took flight! My mother tossed me out of the kitchen as the cooker zipped around the room hitting the walls, ceiling floor, and anything in the kitchen until it came to rest by the door. Yes. It blew a seal. Mere words cannot describe the mess that took hours to clean up - and likely had some residue at the moment we tore off that part of the house.

I was terrified of pressure cookers for decades. I received one when I moved out of the house...a very nice one that stayed in the box for decades. Terrified of it. So....despite my terror, I one day decided it was time to use the pressure cooker. My heart pounded during the entire time I used it. Then I bought a pressure canner. And I've been using them on occasion ever since.

haven't had a pressure cooker since the '70's.
if you can't afford the heat, do the time . . . .

I'm looking at this one.

This is the one we use in the RV.

I looked up the model that you referenced above. It seems kinda steep to me at $275CAD. The same one in the US is $199US. I don't deal with Canadian goods very often, is this normal?

I'm not familiar with that one (but don't have a huge amount of experience with them.) At a glance, how does it differ from an insta-pot other than it is prettier and stylish?

Yeah, that's about the correct price difference. Basically you would pay 200 American for that unit in Canada

Apparently it's good quality, I like the way it looks and the demo's I've watched show that it's about as basic to use as could possible be. And when I see control panels that say multigrain, chicken, and porridge I generally call bull sh!t.

In my 68 years of cooking, I have worn out 3 pressure cookers, all stovetop models. Love my pressure cooker especially, as has already been noted, for saving time in the kitchen.

My first one was a good old workhorse of a Presto. The second was a fantastic Revere Ware one that I had to give up because gaskets were no longer available, but I did use it for a long time as a great heavy-duty pot with a Revere lid from another piece of Revere Ware I had.

This last one, in my estimation, is the cream of the crop. It's a Kuhn Rikon and it came with the standard large pot, along with a much shallower one for smaller quantities of food. I've used the bejeepers out of it and, at my age, I have no doubt it will be my last one.

Never had any accidents, blow-ups, etc. with any of my pressure cookers, but my mother did when I was in my teens.

She prepared a recipe of green split pea soup and allowed the vent to clog. We had a beautious green explosion and the kitchen was never the same again.

So... basically you had your mind made up when you asked us?

Sometimes I do the same thing. Like my toaster oven thread.

Sometimes, with so few active members, it can be hard to gain input on a specific item that might be not the norm. If you will.

I like it's looks, too. It doesn't even look like a "normal" PC.

No, I didn't have my mind made up and I've been checking out the ones recommended but like this one and I haven't bought anything yet. I hate gadgets and cooked almost exclusively all my life with a stove and my blender and foods processor only have on, off and pulse and this one is like that, which is why it appeals to me and I don't mind the look but it will be in a cabinet and not on the counter just like both my food processor and blender.

I've used a fagor duo for 15 years. It's been very good. When it dies I'm going to replace it with an instant pot. And then I'll clear out my rice cooker and slow cooker as well to reclaim some storage space.

Thanks thymeless, I want an electric pressure cooker, but yeah, the fagor duo has great reviews, although they have sold the company and it's now under a different name, but again I believe I would prefer an electric.
