I don't know how I've gone 64 years without ever trying peach pie. But last week at the store they had fresh baked pies, on sale so I bought a half peach pie.

Incredible!

Apple pie has always been my favorite, but I think that just changed. :)

Growing up (southern Ontario - fruit country) we only ever had fresh fruit pies. Came time for me to make for my family - I failed miserably other than maybe pumpkin or apple. So have never actually made a fruit pie from scratch myself.
But I DO remember how delicious peach and cherry were!

We never had fresh peaches when I was growing up. My mom would try to feed us those disgusting canned peaches in the sugary syrup. For a long time I thought that was what peaches tasted like.

The first time I had a fresh peach was maybe 10 years ago. It was like a revelation.

I'm the oddball here. I don't particularly like peach pie or peach cobbler. I think that might have to do with growing up with a couple of peach trees. Those peaches were fabulous. I have fond memories of eating them fresh off the tree and still warm from the sun. We would eat them outside, because they were such a lovely, juicy mess to eat.

But, everyone in the neighbourhood was making stuff out of their excess peaches, my mum included. I think I just got tired of the taste of cooked peaches.

My peach pie does not cook the peaches. I make a glaze that I then coat the peach slices in it. I love it as it is not goopy, overly sweet, and allows the peach taste to shine. Very similar to my family's strawberry pie. For apple, cherry and even blackberry, the fruit is cooked. Our blueberry is also made with a glaze to coat the fruit so it is fresh.

That sounds delicious!

Even in Ontario with all the fresh peaches in season we still had canned peaches during the off seasons. Sure they were different but that's just the way it was.
Actually... and still is! 😄

I would call a glazed fresh fruit in a crust a tart, no? Usually served on top of a custard?

Love peach pie and peach cobbler (both warmed with vanilla ice cream). Heck, I even like peach wine. Had a glass last night.

One of my favorite snacks as a kid was a bowl of canned peaches, ice cold, with the juice. I still eat that to this day.

Tart was what also came to mind when I read Kathleen's description.

Whether it is a tart or a pie, it sounds like it would be delicious.

At my last house, I had a big yard, with a peach tree. Growing peaches is a lot of work, but the payoff is great. My tree would yield about 300 peaches every year in early June. My ex-wife and I had to give most of them away, because we couldn't eat them, bake them, or freeze them all.

But, there is nothing like a ripe peach right off of the tree. We had to eat them outside, leaning forward, because they had so much juice in them.

The over-ripe peaches were perfect for peach margaritas. We would invite all the neighbors over for a big peach margarita party.

The last time I drove by my old house, the peach tree was gone. I was a bit sad about that, but life goes on.

I would make mom scrub the peach to rid the fuzz. Horrid stuff made my lips so itchy. If I was in a rush to eat it I would get so upset with myself for not scrubbing.
I also remember the look on my mom's face when I dribbled juice down the front of a brand new blouse. She was not a happy camper.

Twice a year, sometimes three times a year, Marie Callenders had their pies on sale for half price for the whole month. they were right down the street, so I would buy, in this order, apple, cherry, peach, blueberry, and if time allowed, French apple. I do not like razzleberry or lemon meringue. Don't ask me why, I just don't, and my grandmother made the best lemon meringue pie in the county!

Who knows the difference between French apple and Dutch apple pies? It took me a long time to find out. Here's a hint, the Google answer is wrong! I finally had to ask one of the Marie Callender bakers.

Never heard of Dutch Apple Pie but French Apple Pie was/is always with Maraschino Cherries and a crumble topping. Some have said there should also be raisins, but I've never seen nor bought one with them.
For some reason they seem to be seasonal as I only ever saw them in the spring.
Another spring pie is rhubarb and strawberry - only been ever able to get them at Costco! Huge family deep pies! Heaven!

The Dutch apple has a crumble topping made with flour, sugar, and butter, which is what they selll frozen in the supermarket. A French apple pie, which they sell in the restaurant, adds chopped nuts to the topping.

Now y'all did it. I was palcing a grocery order and I just HAD to add a peach pie to the list. It's a store bakery 8-inch one, Marie Callender makes a 10-inch frozen lattice top peach pie that wieghs in at 40oz, but it's always out of stock.

It really is. Next time I make one, I will post it.

No custard. Softly-gelled, glazed fruit in a crust.
