one of hawaii's fav soup

1 Portuguese sausage, cut up
2 cans kidney beans or 1can kidney beans and 1 can garbanzo beans
1 can chicken broth
1 chopped onion
1/2 head cabbage, cut in 1 inch pieces
2 potatoes, cubed
1/2 - 3/4 cup elbow macaroni
dash of cayenne pepper
salt to taste
1 8oz can tomato sauce

Dice sausage, fry with onion. Add beans and chicken broth, simmer 15 minutes. Add potatoes and macaroni, cook 15 more minutes. Add cabbage and tomato sauce, season to taste, cook additional 15 minutes or until cabbage is tender.

Try adding watercress to your soup. Add it in a little bit prior to serving. I think you'll like it even more.
 
Talk about bringing back memories. When I lived in Hawaii this was the great favorite, with corn chowder (something I grew up on being fed by my New England mother, so was surprised that the only other place I've seen it be common was ... Hawaii). When I make it here, keilbasa is the closest I can come to "portagee" sausage we got in Hawaii.
