I've seen many recipes, almost all the same, but my question is not on a recipe but...
When would you serve it?
What would you serve with it?

Wow, I've never heard of potted shrimp. Bubba* didn't mention that one.

I've never seen here what they call 'Brown Shrimp' in the UK so I would use Nordic shrimp, small to tiny shrimp sometimes also called salad or cocktail shrimp.
Bunch of shrimp, packed tightly inot a small mold or jar, covered with unsalted (clarified?) butter. Often a spice is added, could be nutmeg, mace, cayenne sometimes a bay leaf, a bit of lemon juice and/or shallot.
Often served as a spread on toast.

I was just curious if others had made/eaten/used it. Sounds delicious to me but wanted to hear how others suggest having it.

I haven't seen the tiny Nordic shrimp since coming here, just very small shrimp so think I might even chop them up a bit.

Hmmmm, I don't like those tiny shrimp, and I've never seen wild caught Gulf shrimp that small.

I still don't have a clear idea what potted shrimp is. Like Taxy asked, can someone describe it?

I think dragn' was describing it when she wrote about them being tightly packed into a small jar.

I meant, "What does it taste like?" Dragn mentioned multiple herb options, and butter, possibly clarified, possibly not.

Maybe someone has an actual recipe they can post. I can usually get an idea of the taste from a recipe.

potted shrimp 1 I think I like this one
potted shrimp 2 this one sounds good too
potted shrimp 3 starting to get to be too many ingredients
potted shrimp 4 here's Jamie Oliver's take on them

now these are Nordic Shrimp in case you wanted to order some
I don't know about getting brown shrimp around here. I really think there might be a taste difference in the shrimps if you do the side by side - but as I've said before, I don't really have such a discerning tongue that I would be able to tell otherwise.

I pictured something like ground shrimp in a pot....like a spread. It's like....butter with some herbs and shrimp? Yeah, I would try that!

When I first read the titles I thought the same as you Kathleen. The pictures didn't exactly turn me on with lumpy shrimp and clotted butter.
Think I will create my own version, spicing the butter a bit and chopping the shrimp up a bit finer. I'll leave some whole strictly for presentation, no?
