My husband was making waffles this morning using Malt-O-Meal and the Jean Alice pancake recipe. It gives instructions for making waffles instead, and one of the instructions is to increase the amount of oil from the 2 T in the pancake recipe to 1 cup! Surely this must be a typo? It yields 8 waffles. That would be 2T of oil per waffle instead of in the entire recipe. Could this possibly be accurate?

One of the things that makes a waffle batter different from a pancake batter is the amount of fat in the recipe. But one cup of oil seems crazy! My waffle recipe has similar quantities of ingredients and calls for 1/2 cup of oil and that almost seems excessive to me, but they come out great and the recipe makes 5 large fluffy waffles.

Sounds like a lot of oil to me but I haven't made waffles in a million or so years.

Give it a shot as the recipe call for and then you'll know for sure if you should cut back on the oil.

Who knows. It might just be what the doctor ordered. ;)

And what is Malt-O-Meal ?

Guess it's time to fire up the Google machine.
