Saturday, 17th January 2026 - what's for dinner?

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that enjoys cooking.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I miss my folks, my aunts and uncles and brothers and cousins and all. Because the longer you live, the more people you will say goodbye to. I guess it’s just life.

Getting together for the holidays is the worst.
I don't get melancholy during the holidays, I just miss seeing everyone together and it crosses my mind.
You have to take it in stride.

Mustard sauce... on crabs?
I won't knock it til I've tried it.

It might be a good way to use some up if I google a recipe in the future.

It's actually a dip, cold. They just call it mustard sauce.

Thanks.
I remember that pic. I guess the mustard part didn't catch my eye.

Crab I barely use anything. Maybe warm butter now and then. Crab is so sweet on its own. Or the seasoning that is all over my fingers, lol.

I'll be trying it.

At my brother's and were supposed to have the meat pie mentioned now in tomorrow's dinner thread.
He mentioned he hadn't used to oven in years.... I said No Problem! It'll be fine!
He misunderstood me - I said will start at 425 and then 375. He set it to 475.
We finally found the door thru all the smoke - when we could finally breath again it was decided to just have the fries he had done in the air fryer and open some canned chilli - which was delicious.

Darn, wish I knew where you get your lamb from but here it is as shown:

And that is cheap compared to the last time I bought a leg of lamb.
This my last one I bought on special

Interesting. We have very strict rules in Ontario and most lamb is 3 to 4 months old weighing around 80 to 95 and goes to 6 months and the youngest is milk fed and ages out at 8 weeks for that category. The oldest ones at 6 months normally weight 110 lbs and maybe a little more. For the restaurant we order the 3-4 month ones and get them in whole and I butcher them.

I used to buy whole lamb dressed around 23kg. @$11 kg.

I make mustard sauce with my corned beef.

We got slack tonight and decided try our new Pizza Hut a Super Supreme I think it was called and it wasn't all that bad :)

Mind you, the guy (I think it was - still not 100% sure) was anything BUT Super Supreme or even Super or Supreme - infact, I don't think he/she was even on this planet ????

But the Pizza was good and I didn't have to cook then clean up :)

I found a place (Save a Lot) that sells Aussie Lamb here and we have one about 20 minutes away. Toook a look this afternoon and they have Racks of Lamb for only $12. That'll give me 6 Lamb Chops if I seperate them.
That should be double bone chops then since each rack should have 12 ribs? You mean $12 lb?

Edit: I just checked my grocer's website, it's 8 ribs per rack.
They had roasts as well so am going to try both in due course ... and yes it IS actual Lamb :)
Of course it's lamb!

here a rack of lamb is usually 6 to 8 ribs.
I haven't bought a rack of lamb in a long time. I must be thinking about the last human I cooked, sorry.

:ROFLMAO:

And posting tipsy didn't help.

Yeah I just checked my grocer's website, it's 8 ribs per rack.

Well, honestly I had to look it up too but I knew it certainly wasn't 12! 😁
Yeah thinking back on the last time I broke down a rack, 1-2 of the ribs were much shorter that the others so it really was more like 6-7.

I love to drink when I cook, BTW, hence the memory lapse, that and just age I reckon 😉 But I'm sure I had several glasses of wine in me!
