SCOTLAND ... Any Scots on DC?

I just got back from Scotland and besides being a lovely, beautiful country, the food was amazing. Tried as I might, I could NOT find a fried Mars bar. I had wonderful curries, fish & chips, lamb. I discovered banoffee pie - and I'm keen to try making it. I also had Ginger Tam which is a delicious ginger, honey and whiskey flavored liquor. I wish I had snagged some of that to take home!

The people, the Highlands and the food was great.

I'm of Scotch/Irish descent so I claim the Scots as my people.

Hi Toots, I'm not Scottish, but I went to Scotland too for 10 days in the 90's. It was so beautiful, calm, uncluttered, and the food was magnificent. The haggis was great. I loved the scenery, the loch ness monster, the sheep, the people, the isle of skye, I think I could retire there someday. Lovely place isn't it. I'd like to learn more Scottish cooking. I'll be watching this thread to learn more.

I'm of Irish/Scots descent with a lot of German thrown in as well.......met many of them over the years expatting around the world and as a whole the lot of them are so much fun to be with...........actually can now understand what most of them are saying, too.............but ye have to be payin attention now..........Scotland is one country that I will visit one of my best friends in soon

all I have to say about kilts (which I think really look very nice on men and nothing is more thrilling than the playing of the bagpipes) it's just true what they say about the paucity of the undergarments....... years ago joined hands in a huge ballroom with a bunch of Scots from a very distinguished bagpipers corps hired esp. to play all night during a St. Andrew's bash and got the momentum going up in an Auld Lang Syne which was the last aire at 3am in the morning.........spontaneously the room divided up into 2 long lines........each line respectively held hands and just coursed up and met up with the other line and then stepped back again and then went up again and then back again........sorta like being on a merry-go-round......not a good combo if you have a tummy full of spirits and it's 3 am in the morn..........not me.......them.........most fell down from the momentum........my Scottish friend and tennis partner ended up in a flurry of mixed kilts to an amazing sight........all she commented was that it was true what they said.......

When we went, we decided we're moving there. We loved it.

When we went, we decided we're moving there. We loved it.

I live in Scotland. The weather is the worst. It rained almost every day of August. High winds. We don't get any sun, let alone any summer. Taxation is extremely high. Health Service is non-existent. I'd rather live in Australia.

ps there are loads of delinquents, we call them NEDS. They go about causing trouble and stabbing people. The UK is a broken country. Thats just my personal opinion.

I spent a week in Scotland a few years ago, and I have a wee bit of Scots in me blood. It is beautiful in Scotland. Twas the first time I ever tasted whisky too!!! Tried haggis just to say I did, not my favorite dish. Attended what was billed as the worlds largest New Years Eve street party, had a great time

I don't think that any place is nirvana for anyone..........unless you're well off and can afford great insurance and take off when the weather is getting on your nerves........if you're stuck there then it's a different matter........which is for most of us......

I saw the "heeland coos" too - I had my picture taken with one in the Highlands too (I know, how corny but how could I resist? they are TOO cute). We weren't in Scotland for the tattoo, we were in Edinburgh and the Highlands last week - just after the tattoo and the fringe festivals ended. So it was a wee bit quiet, but we thoroughly enjoyed it after being in the hustle and bustle AND rain of London. We lucked out and had good weather. I even got a Scottish suntan.

I want to go back someday and hike around in the Highlands, so beautiful!

For the Scots on here, how can I get my mitts on some Ginger Tam?
