Split tomatoes

Yesterday I went to a farmer's market and got 3 really nice ripe tomatoes. I also got a watermelon. During the drive home the watermelon (that I thought I had secured well) rolled into the bag with the tomatoes and all 3 have splits in them. I washed them and have them out on the counter but not sure how to store them to keep them. Should I slice and dice and put them in the fridge? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have always put "cut" tomatoes in the refrigerator. Now, I have brought in tomatoes on the vine with a "crack" in them, but the crack was not fresh or oozy. If it were me, and I could not use them right away, I'd place them in sadness into the refrigerator.

If they're well-ripened, refrigerating will not affect the flavor. Just take them out to warm up a bit before using.

Thanks for that link. It's a good article. It makes sense. I was already coming to the conclusion that just-leave-the-tomatoes-out was not a great idea. The article was more nuanced than my conclusion.

I sliced the worst one and made a tomato sandwich for lunch. The other 2 are in a bowl in the fridge and seem okay today. Thanks folks! I knew you all would be able to help.
