There was no suggestion of using alcohol for the bath. I was also suggesting this for an adult. And has been mentioned further down this thread, a little common sense goes a long way. It had never occurred to me that someone would try to use the rubbing alcohol for the cool bath. That does sound like a terrible idea.

Rubbing alcohol can be several types of alcohol, but they are denatured to be unpleasant to drink. BTW, a regular sized bottle of rubbing alcohol is less than a litre in size. That would take an awful lot of bottles to make a bath.
True true. I know the teacher my sister had loved to use "worst cases" and "worst scenarios" when talking about not doing something.

I also didn't mean to start a fight in the comments, so I apologize if I did or made anyone mad. I was more just wondering if the skin absorbing isopropyl alcohol could be potentially harmful, even in mild doses.

Though to the point of mild doses, every time I get a zit I rub it with a good bit of isopropyl alcohol, so. . . . . . . .

Not to mention hand sanitizer and wet wipes, both of which were used profusely in my house until I was like 16.

And to top it all off, anything in excessive doses can be deadly, like water.

Welll middle daughter reports that our 4 year old grandson is throwing up and has a fever. They're all supposed to fly back to Texas Saturday. Hopefully he recovers quickly and they don't all get sick.

@Jusa how's our grandson doing? Will they be able to return to Texas as planned?

And how is your OH fairing - better I trust?
Oh, I am a bit out of sorts about a lot of things (including my "cranky and somewhat irrational from being dehydrated and having low O2" husband) and just not in a very Christmassy spirit at the moment.

My grandson still has a fever but his cough and vomiting episodes have stopped. I think they will be going back to Texas on Saturday as planned. However, I am beyond disappointed with her and her fiance. They went over to my youngest daughter and her husband's house today (the son-in-law who is sick STILL and got my DH sick to begin with, and now my youngest daughter is sick too with a 101-102 fluctating fever, cough, etc.). And so far, my little grandson, because of his mother's carelessness by taking him over to other people's homes, has infected a cousin's little boy, and both his parents are sick now too. And then today she went to an elderly aunt's house for the Christmas party (the one my DH and I skipped because we didn't want to spread our germs) where two other elderly family members were present with my sick grandson...I am beyond angry about that. One of those elderly aunts lives in a nursing home and was having a Christmas outing for the day and went back this evening. So if she gets sick and gets the whole facility sick...I don't even want to say what could happen.

And I am wondering who is this person I raised? I certainly do not know how living in Texas for the past 10 years could have changed her so much and turned her into such an irresponsible, careless, and thoughtless person. I am beyond disappointed. I am actually livid.

Wow, that is disappointing.
Pre-covid I used to, to an extent accept the selfishness of sick people with communicable diseases turning up in group settings to spread their germs.
I always considered it selfish but at the same time a lot of people are quite ignorant so I’d partially write it off as stupidity.
But Covid gave the vast majority of the world’s population a strong lesson in how germs are spread, the best ways to prevent that and how to try and protect the vulnerable.
So now I mostly only see it as selfish. A belief in exceptionalism, that they are the exception and somehow the real world rules on infection don’t apply to them or that other people don’t much matter.

So yes I would be very, very disappointed (to say the least) if my children exposed an elderly relative to that risk.
If my boys have a nasty cold (particularly chest infection) they always ring or text to let us know and discuss if it’s still ok to come because although we’re fit we have frequent contact with elderly relatives that are vulnerable.
Tbh that’s a level of consideration I think is simply a common courtesy.

Fingers crossed they didn’t pass it on and I hope your manbaby is feeling better soon 🤗

It's hard to fathom because she's an educated young woman who was always compassionate growing up, but this gun-toting man from Texas with right-wing ideology she has taken up with seems to have changed her. It's sad and concerning. I'm worried this man will be raising my grandson. And how can he have changed her values so drastically?

@Jusa - I honestly don't know what to say, actually, I have a few of thoughts but I don't think they'd be helpful if you know what I mean.

You raise your kids (generally speaking) the right way, to be considerate, responsible and so on - but as they say, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink.

How can soomeone change another person so much? Peer group pressure is a very strong thing and "love is blind" ... Her being so far from home in a place where influences are strong would/could make it hard for her to retain her raised standards and sensibilities. I am not defending her Jusa because what she has done is indefensible.

I am so sorry all of this had to happen at this time of the year for you, try and stay strong mate ...

There are simply inconsiderate people who cannot think beyond their own wants and needs. And they are everywhere and come from all walks of life. Before Christmas, we had an appointment at one of the larger hospitals in the area. I cannot describe how many employees were coughing and sneezing. Some with masks. Some without. Regardless of whether they had a mask or not, people should stay home when sick. Masks come down to drink, eat, wipe noses, etc.

Not to defend the daughter, Jusa, it may be that she simply wanted to see everyone and felt she was being cautious by washing hands, etc. I don't know...just trying to give a bit of thought as to why.

The problem with large employers like hospitals is they usually have very harsh sickness policies.

Where I worked if you had more than two episodes in a year you would be put on ‘a pathway’ Another episode of sickness within 6 months and you were in HR’s sights and on a slippery slope to dismissal.
We all watched a few people fall foul of the new vicious policy.
One woman I worked with was hospitalised with pneumonia, she nearly died, she tried hard to return to work, which meant she went off again quite quickly and then on the pathway.. adios.

So unless you are actually completely incapable of turning up then you must turn up otherwise you risk losing your job.

I had two episodes and went on the pathway.
I was furious, I’d been there over twenty years worked my socks off and never phoned in sick but on this occasion I had flu, flu so bad I was passing out. However 10 months earlier (the previous year) I had a migraine and wasn’t safe to drive so yep the joy of living in the computer age, it’s set to go back that far and flagged it.

I told them exactly what I thought of their disgraceful policy and if they looked at the previous 20 years I wasn’t off sick and surely that counts for something but they don’t care!
