Toaster Ovens, decisions, decisions, decisions

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that enjoys cooking.

Noticed the discussion on wattage. Keep in mind that these figures/ratings are based on MAXIMUM draw.

The oven will only pull the wattage it needs for a given setting. One of these inexpensive devices will show the actual draw in real time. The results might surprise you.

However many watts it draws, get the one you want and have fun with it.

Common sense says the laws of thermodynamics don't change. If the low power cannot overcome the the heat losses to the system then it would use more power as it would never be done. If both systems can overcome those losses then they both have to overcome the same energy loss. The high power system would run a shorter period of time to get there, but it still has to fight the loss. The low power system takes longer but gets there with less power.

The laws of physics and thermal dynamics don't change this universal fact... there ain't no problem that can't be fixed with enough money, or at least, a good credit score. :ROFLMAO:

Little adjustments are needed in my cooking. A learning curve. Think I might have vaporized the poor onion rings inside the breading. Lol very crunchy.
Yeah OK, a little burnt.

Maybe you prefer this one to the cold bath... your doctor did tell you to relax and not get yourself stressed in anyway, didn't he Frank?

I used to have poster of that hanging in my office at one of my old corporate jobs. It was in the "Motivations" poster style. It said something like, "Do something brave today... and run like hell."

any takers on just how long that oven will look so nice?
I was just wondering how long it would look that nice. At least now you have a photo of it looking that good.

You might want to try a trick I learned about making oven clean up easier. Put some baking soda in a spray bottle. Fill some water into the bottle and let the baking soda dissolve. While the oven is cold, spray the sprayable parts of the inside of the oven. Do that once for every time you use the oven. When you feel like it, wipe the inside of the oven. It is usually really easy, even if it has been 10 or 20 uses since the last wipe down. I consider it my magic trick. Don't spritz the glass while the oven is hot. Yeah, you probably knew that, but I figure the reminder can't hurt.

Yeah I did, but it is always a good reminder especially to any of our newbie cooks out there.
Also another tip to go along with that...
If your fridge has glass shelves and you THINK your casserole has cooled off enough to put in, check the bottom of it with your hand. If you still need to put it in the fridge anyhow, fold up a tea towel to place under it.
A lesson taught to me by my very disgruntled mother the day she cracked her fridge shelf.
My mom was 'common sense' personified and ergo so angry with herself for something she knew and just didn't think being in a hurry to go out.

We have an Emeril Lagasee French Door 360 Airfryer and couldn't be happier. We purchased it June 2024 and now have no need for our old single-use airfryer, toaster oven and our crock-pot, since it does those tasks quite well. The "toast" feature is to die for. Makes the best toast. It also has a rotisserie and a proof setting.

Given that I rarely use the crock-pot anymore and the old airfryer and toaster oven are slated to go to new homes, I felt the $250.00USD price was reasonable.

Another nice thing is, is that it has the same footprint as the older toaster oven, which was only a toaster oven. The dimensions are: 15 1/2" wide x 15" tall x 16" deep, which includes the "bump outs" in the back to keep it away from the wall.

Only reason I never looked at that was I'd never heard much about Emeril Lagasee appliances and was sort of wanting to stick with more well-known brands.
But yours sounds perfect but... ahhh, just a bit too late. Even in the $400 range (Canadian) as was the one I got, and with the French Doors :heart: and proof setting :heart:. sounds like it might have been a winner for me.
Even so, I will survive! LOL.

I've briefly looked over this thread and I may have missed where you said which one you got?

I'm debating on if I want a new toaster oven or not. I have a small one, but I wouldn't mind a larger one that cooks more food. I'm currently looking at different models and sizes. I don't want a HUGE one, but bigger than the one I have now, which is just a standard toaster oven (the tray holds 2 pieces of bread). I use that little guy nearly every day for this or that. I probably use my toaster oven more than my main oven. So it might be worth investing in a bigger, nicer one.

I ended up getting a Cuisinart TOB-260N1 . They call it the Chef's Convection Toaster Oven. I'm happy with it even tho there is no "proofing" setting. I probably would have loved Kate's 'Emeril Lagasee French Door Air Fryer' one mentioned before. I love, love the French Door aspect very, very much plus there is the 'proof' setting too.
Prices were within a small difference I could accept. (at least here in Canada) Might be different for you. I also went with Amazon even though I found it cheaper at Walmart (?) because I could get it in 2 days and Walmart was 2 weeks.

Thanks for the info.

What is a "proof" setting?

A very low setting of 100 degrees or less for 'proofing' bread dough. My basement apartment is very chilly and difficult to have the bread dough rise.
Most toaster oven and a lot of regular size ovens don't go any lower than 170 degrees. Very annoying for some (me being a 'some').

Thanks, guys. Learn something new every day ;)

I have the original Emeril Lagasbag air fryer oven that I bought at an auction house 5 years ago for about 150 bucks, new. I also bought a second one from the same auction house 6 months later for 45 bucks and it's still sitting in the box waiting for the first one to quit on me. It has a rotisserie but I found it's cheaper to buy a rotisserie chicken from the grocery store than to buy a raw chicken and rotisserie it your own damn self (can rotisserie be a noun and a verb?). But the rotisserie works great on a pork tenderloin, and the supermarkets don't sell those!
