not necessary.
people who are offended by everything need to find somewhere else to live.

yes, it was humor, intended to be humor. substitute political "identity" for "Doer" and/or "Taker" and you have the USA current welfare culture - but that's not the point.

if this Forum turns into a "snowflake safe place" - not a good future as virtually no public discourse can avoid offended one flake or another.

How far can we push that, do you think? If I want to share a racist or anti-Semitic joke, should that be okay? How about anti-Christian? How about anti-white? anti-Republican?

It was obviously a joke to me.

Somebody on another forum made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith along the lines of Chris Rock's joke. I personally thought it was offensive, as did at least 1 of the mods, because it was a joke about a person with a disease/condition they had no control over. Was the joke taken down? No, because a majority of the mods didn't find it offensive. Was Chris Rock's joke offensive in his mind? No, because he didn't know about her condition. I believe he has stated he wouldn't have said it if he did. Was Will Smith's slap wrong? Yes, not only because he shouldn't have put his hands on another person, but also because he laughed and waited until he got the "look" from his wife and realized he was in deep doodoo for laughing; thus, his over reaction.

I guess offensive has become like porn, you'll know it when you see it, and I don't see it in the doers and takers joke.

Thank you medtran - well said.
Phaedra, I do not believe you need to apologize either.

You know, I often make jokes about myself... and I don't care if you laugh at me or with me, just so long as you are laughing!

anti-flake works for me.

if you insist every person in the world must agree with your view points, join Facebook.
if you allow any other person in the world to have a different opinion, join reality.

snowflakes exist in every corner of time and space and reality.
virtually _nothing_ exists that does not offend one or more snowflakes.

Is that supposed to be an answer to my question? If so, I don't understand.

This has nothing to do with being offended. It has everything to do with the rules of the forum: Community Rules
"Discussions about politics and religion are not permitted."

That fable about beer was a very thinly veiled political commentary. It was thinner than the cheesecloth I used to filter my chicken broth earlier tonight. Some of us use Discuss Cooking as a refuge away from our fill of politics elsewhere. It has nothing to do with being "snowflakes" (which is not the most recent disparaging word, BTW). Were you to see my Facebook news feed, your head might snap off swiveling from left to right, seeing as how I have friends (real life friends I know personally, not random people I've friended on Facebook) at the extreme edges of each political spectrum. Yet they are my friends because, for the most part, we can discuss our differences without flinging nasty names.

Well, most of them will discuss politely. There are a few that start with the rants and names. Just one side, though. You guess - and keep it to yourself. :whistling

CG - it was a joke. It had nothing whatsoever to do with politics and to be honest I cannot for the life of me see anything political in it.

However, if your mind sees things that are not there, then I will be only too happy to not post any more jokes in case you see things in them as well.

I am very happy for you that you have many friends in real life. I am severely physically disabled, a permanent electric wheelchair user, and totally housebound. I live alone, apart from my beloved dog, and have no family. Today is my 81st birthday and the ONLY birthday wishes I have received - and will receive, are from my online friends.

Just pray that you never find yourself in the same situation.

Y'know, I read that "joke" and my first thought was that people would be offended. I wasn't offended so much as not at all amused and concerned this type of dispute would arise. Phaedra may have taken it as a joke but I'm not sure that was its original intent.
