TRUTH !!
Before you become upset, and although Richard II was aged 29 at the time of their nuptials, this marriage was for political purposes only. Isabella of Valois was the daughter of Charles VI of France. The two countries had long fought one another, with many years of fighting yet to come in the Hundred Years War, and, in a desperate attempt to ensure some kind of peace, it was agreed that Isabella should become Richard's wife to try to unite the two realms. The couple were married on 31 October, 1396, with the tearful little girl's dolls included in her trousseau. Isabella returned to England with Richard, where he ensconced her safely at Windsor Castle with her own court and adult protectors, and she was crowned Queen the following year by his side. Though a political union, Richard grew fond of the dainty little girl and visited her regularly at her court, where he played games with the child and made her (and her supervising ladies) giggle at his jokes. Alas though, Richard was captured a few short years later by his cousin, the vengeful son of John of Gaunt, imprisoned, and starved to death. He was dead by the year 1400. His little widow missed him, refused further offers of English marriage partners, and returned to France where she later married the Duke of Orleans at the age of 17, before dying while giving birth two years later.
