During the 1930's, Sylvan Goldman, owner of a chain of grocery markets in Oklahoma, made the first "basket carrier" by attaching wheels to facing folding chairs and mounting a basket on the combine seat area.
Goldman's basket carriers helped increase the quantities purchased by his customers and thus, the amount of money each customer spent.
