Tuesday Dinner Feb 11, '25

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that enjoys cooking.

@Kathleen, I'm happy for you getting hot water.
(back in 2008 we didn't have hot water for a month. There was flooding in the area and basements flooded out and our water pump broke a pipe in the basement. The plumbers for 100 miles were busy. I would get ready for work by hauling a 5 gallon pail of warm water (heated on the stove) up into the shower stall upstairs. My shower was by the cup. I kind of came to enjoying it but WOW was I thankful when we finally had hot water again!)

I'm vacationing in Las Vegas for the week. Tonight I had dinner at Ocean Prime. What a beautiful restaurant. My friend says it looks like something out of Star Trek. I had the Ahi Tuna. Delicious!

I used to spend weeks at a time in Vegas on business. The only thing good about it is the availability of restaurants to choose from.

Oh, stay away from Gordon Ramsey's Pub in Caesar's. Horrible.

I lived here for seven years while going to college. I went to school during the day and played in a band at night. My 15 minutes of fame came when our band opened for the Beach Boys (and BJ Thomas) on New Year's Eve at the Las Vegas Hilton. 1992, I think. The town has changed dramatically since those days.

Early 90s are when I started to go to Vegas a lot. Do you remember the COMDEX show?

Yeah of course. Believe it or not, one of my first jobs after college was setting up the attendee registration PCs for COMDEX at the Sands' convention center. You know I work in IT too, right?

The company I worked for had a 100X100 exhibit at the Sands Convention Center. I had to be there five days before the show, and three days after. I learned very quickly that the way to get things done in Vegas is to carry a big wad of cash. I'm not talking about bribing the people at the top. You take care of the people doing all the hard work you need to get done.

I had an appointment with a respirologist at Lakeshore General Hospital. It's a maze. I had to get a new hospital card first and I had to drop off a sample at the laboratory afterwards. I got lost several times. I also had to drop off some paperwork at my doctor's office which is in a clinic at that hospital. Got lost a couple of more times. By the time I got home I was completely exhausted from running all over the hospital. All of that to explain why I mostly scrounged my supper. I did make an omelet/scrambled eggs and had that with a slice of rugbrød (Danish style heavy rye bread). Then I had some brie and some Boursin, each on a slice of rye crispbread. I thought about veggies, but I didn't have the energy to cut them or cook them.

Honestly? I've no interest in ever setting foot in Vegas. I might, just might if someone else was footing the bill, but probably not even then .....
meanwhile, back at the ranch, Pocahontas was asking John if supper was ready.
Roasted up the small pork roast I cut from the larger loin the other day.
Very yummy and have lots and lots of leftovers.
That little roast was a bit bigger than I remembered. LOL going to have to use my imagination for different ways!

taxy, my sympathies! Been going to the Lakeshore since the late '60's. Been lost and late for two appointments there a long time ago... before a lot of the reno's and additions! Hate to think what it must be like now!
My son says the new Vaudreuil hospital is really getting on now. I can envision all the traffic for Blvd de Citie de Jeunes now. Used to be a regular route for me.

i might have posted this in the wrong place if so please move it

last night as we were driving home we decided to stop and get a bite to eat and take a break from driving in the snow all day , it had gotten dark and the snow was just getting heavier , when we saw the western sizzler sign and pulled in , it was fairly busy considering we were smack in the middle of a heavy snow storm and the outside temp was 10 F .
its a buffet place and the prices are pretty good, $ 40.00 for the two of us , they have a large selection ranging from shrimp to taco 's
the wife headed straight to the shrimp while i checked out the fried chicken , when we sat down she had her plate loaded with fried shrimp , hush puppies and something i couldn't identify , i on the other hand had filled my plate with a chicken breast , fried okra and corn. we both had dinner rolls and both agreed the rolls were very sub par , , they were hard and greasy however according to her, the shrimp were really good as were the hush puppies , she did not mention whatever that mystery meat/whatever but she ate it haha
my fried chicken kinda surprised me , it was fresh, hot and really good , the fried okra could have been warmer , but the pan was near empty when i got to it so thats understandable , the corn was hot and tasty
when i finished that i headed back to see what else i could find , i ended up getting some pot roast ( very good ) more fresh okra and a small piece of link sausage ( not so good ) while the wife finished off her meal with a piece of blueberry pie . overall it was a nice dinner.
then back into the snow we went for the final 30 or so miles home
