The friendliest place on the web for anyone that enjoys cooking.

taxy, my sympathies! Been going to the Lakeshore since the late '60's. Been lost and late for two appointments there a long time ago... before a lot of the reno's and additions! Hate to think what it must be like now!
My son says the new Vaudreuil hospital is really getting on now. I can envision all the traffic for Blvd de Citie de Jeunes now. Used to be a regular route for me.
I thought you would probably be familiar with Lakeshore General. They are renovating at the moment. It makes it even harder to find stuff. The emergency is in a temporary "modular building", off to the side of the regular place where the emergency was. My doctor (finally got a family doctor in early December) is with the Family Health Clinic, which is upstairs of emergency.

How do you make those kongjang?
Bring a kettle of water with 4 cups soybeans (black would be great but I have yellow/white) to a boil. Let sit an hour and 1/2. Drain, rinse with cold water. Fill kettle with cold water and the soybeans. Bring to a boil and simmer an hour. The beans should be soft enough to chew almost (but not quite) soft enough to mash. Reduce water to just over the level of the beans, add 1 cup soy sauce, 1 cup sugar, and continue cooking-boiling until the 'sauce' is almost gone and soaked into the beans. When it is boiling and you stir the sauce is getting candy like on the beans. Let cool a bit, then add a few tablespoons of corn syrup or honey as a glaze. Sprinkle with white sesame seeds.
3 or 4 T minced garlic is optional at any stage, I forgot it yesterday. We ate it for a side dish but we often use it to sprinkle on our meal-sized salads as they are really good cold too.

i might have posted this in the wrong place if so please move it

last night as we were driving home we decided to stop and get a bite to eat and take a break from driving in the snow all day , it had gotten dark and the snow was just getting heavier , when we saw the western sizzler sign and pulled in , it was fairly busy considering we were smack in the middle of a heavy snow storm and the outside temp was 10 F .
its a buffet place and the prices are pretty good, $ 40.00 for the two of us , they have a large selection ranging from shrimp to taco 's
the wife headed straight to the shrimp while i checked out the fried chicken , when we sat down she had her plate loaded with fried shrimp , hush puppies and something i couldn't identify , i on the other hand had filled my plate with a chicken breast , fried okra and corn. we both had dinner rolls and both agreed the rolls were very sub par , , they were hard and greasy however according to her, the shrimp were really good as were the hush puppies , she did not mention whatever that mystery meat/whatever but she ate it haha
my fried chicken kinda surprised me , it was fresh, hot and really good , the fried okra could have been warmer , but the pan was near empty when i got to it so thats understandable , the corn was hot and tasty
when i finished that i headed back to see what else i could find , i ended up getting some pot roast ( very good ) more fresh okra and a small piece of link sausage ( not so good ) while the wife finished off her meal with a piece of blueberry pie . overall it was a nice dinner.
then back into the snow we went for the final 30 or so miles home

I haven't seen a Western Sizzler in decades. Sounds like you two know the "Buffet Priorities," load up on the expensive stuff (like shrimp). (y)

CD

CD: i don't like seafood she does , i had chicken and pot roast
and as far as cost goes they put it in the buffet i'm sure a lot of folks took full advantage of it
but like i said it was two pretty good meals for $40.00
