Been a nice easy day today. Weather is pleasant and we are, as usual, entertained by our hummingbirds.

We'll be having a pork chop recipe that I've made since my children were small. The pork chops are seasoned with salt and pepper, browned and then simmered in a brown-sugar tomato sauce. They are topped with slices of fresh lemon, covered while simmering and uncovered for the last 10 minutes of cooking. We'll have steamed rice and buttered broccoli as our sides. More of the Ghirardelli cookies for dessert. That should do it.

What is everyone else having?

Corn on the cob with huckleberry taffy for dessert IF I can find that post about doing the corn in the microwave. I've forgotten the post, I've forgotten which thread it's in, and I've forgotten who posted the info. Maybe if - just once - I could forget to eat, I'd lose some weight but oh, no, like that's ever gonna happen.

Maybe instead of supper I'll just go take my old person nap. How could that possibly hurt at this stage of my life?

OK, I found it the corn info.

Christmas? What Christmas? Or as I like to put it, I only celebrate every 5th year. And this ain't the 5th year. Better luck next year.

Do you mean cooking whole ears of corn in the microwave?

Just put the whole ear into the MW unshucked. Cook it for 3-4 minutes depending on the power of your MW. No need to presoak. If the ear won't fit, trim off some of the bottom.

Remove to a cutting board and Cut off the bottom end including the bottom ring of kernels. Grab the top of the husk then shake and squeeze. The ear would come out slowly.

Steamed/fried some goyza (pot stickers, what ever you call them) Very yummy. Never thought to take a pic, oops, but wasn't really worthy. Although I must say I'm getting rather good at the water/oil, steaming and frying part. OMG, who'd a thunk but yuh know it's true... practice makes perfect! 😁🤭

I just found out about squeezing the cob out of the husk this past year. When I started making corn ribs and also started using the microwave for the first time to cook it.
What a game changer. No silk!

OK, I tried it twice. Wasn't I supposed to put water in through the top, too?

Anyway, I did what you said. Had the ear in the microwave for three minutes. Cut off the bottom. Grabbed the tip and squeezed out the cob. I still had lots of husk left and while I was peeling it off, my corn got cold. So I don't know what I was doing wrong.

Putting the water is up to you. I put in water, I find the steam created helps.
Andy does not use water. He is fine with that.

The husk should have come off in pretty much one piece. Don't know what to suggest.
Did you cut off enough of the bottom to sever all the husk from the stem? Can you see some kernels in the cut off bottom?

May I also suggest you use a tea towel or an oven mitt to hang on to the corn while squeezing so that the corn is dobbied up quickly and stays hot.
Other than that, was the corn done to your liking? Undercooked, overcooked or perfect?

No water necessary.

Watch this:

The only way I eat corn on the cob is if I grill it. I love that light char. I lube it up with some avocado oil, season it with salt and pepper, and toss it on the grill. It can be the charcoal Weber or the gas Weber... doesn't matter. I just want that noticeable but subtle char, and it has to have some crunch left in it. Most Texans overcook corn on the cob. Very soft and drowning in butter. That's not for me.

Until I started making corn ribs I always grilled corn... always still in the husk. The only time I've boiled it was for a seafood type "boil".

Nuking never presented a problem. Four minutes for each ear. Could be a big fat ear or a thinner one. Never had one cool down. Too hot to handle is more like it.
