What are you having on this 3 months before Christmas - Thursday September 25, 2025

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that enjoys cooking.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
making a list, checking it twice, gonna' make a fruitcake tonight . . .
gathering all the stuff . . . can be a major shopping challenge.

for some odd reason, supermarkets don't stock/put out all the 'stuff' until a week before Christmas.
fruitcake needs 60+ days to come of age . . . .

Putting the water is up to you. I put in water, I find the steam created helps.
Andy does not use water. He is fine with that.

The husk should have come off in pretty much one piece. Don't know what to suggest.
Did you cut off enough of the bottom to sever all the husk from the stem? Can you see some kernels in the cut off bottom?

May I also suggest you use a tea towel or an oven mitt to hang on to the corn while squeezing so that the corn is dobbied up quickly and stays hot.
Other than that, was the corn done to your liking? Undercooked, overcooked or perfect?
We had some just the other night - they were already shucked so I wrapped them in damp paper towels and cooked for a total of 7 minutes (3-ears). They came out great - next time I'll try with the husk on.

I hear your pain!
Do you have a place that sells by volume? We have Bulk Barn. You take a scoop to dig out what you need... flour, sugar, spices, dried fruits, dog biscuits, seasonal candies.

Bulk Barn is strictly Canadian but I can't believe someone hasn't cottoned on to it in the States yet.

It has premixed flours, have no idea if they are any good or not, cereals, etc. Don't know if they are actually cheaper but if you only want 1/2 a cup for a recipe and don't want the rest to go stale... it is!

covid put an end to all of the 'open bins' around here . . .

now they pre-bag even the bags . . . 😁

Twenty bucks off a lifetime dog license for being old.
First time taking advantage of being old.

I definitely cut off enough on the bottom. The corn just slid out with s lot of silk still on it.

It was hot when I took it out of the microwave. Not overcooked or undercooked. I usually boil my corn for about 2 minutes and it's always juicy and good. So I'm not sure I'm going to try this again.

Sprouts stores here sell a good section of bulk goods. HEB has a smaller selection, but does have them.
