I started with a simple Cobb salad and some garlic bread, then had a fried chicken breast, some smoked Cheddar cheese slices, ending with a small piece of pumpkin cheesecake. I'm stuffed. What about you guys?

I picked up a white pumpkin pie tonight. Has anyone else even eaten one? I was just too stuffed to try it tonight.

I go home tomorrow, and I will be on a diet, because I gained about ten pounds eating restaurant food for a week.

I had a bowl of really good gumbo at the hotel bar for dinner. It was just the right amount of food, and good gumbo is hard to find in North Texas, unless I make it. ;) Houston is close enough to cajun country to get reasonably good cajun food.

Going a bit off topic, but still food-centric, Cajun Vietnamese fusion is big in Houston, and it is on fire these days. After the Vietnam war, hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese people came to Southeast Texas, because back home, they were fishermen. They bought shrimp boats, and made their mark on the food scene, blending Vietnamese food with Cajun food.

Of course, I completely forgot to take a picture of my food.

I love food history. If you have an interest in Vietcajun cooking, watch this...

I made pictonguy's white bean and smoked tomato. I used cherry tomatoes. I have gotten away with eating those in limited quantity without removing the seeds. I'll see if I got away with it this time. It was really good and the cherry tomatoes were great in that dish with their sweet and tangy flavour. I used liquid smoke. Unless my arthritis reacts badly to this, I will be making it again. I had a couple of pieces of whole wheat baguette with it.

I've never seen a white pumpkin pie. I've seen white pumpkins, of course, but I didn't know you could make pie out of them. I looked up some pics. It appears some of the white pumpkins have actual white flesh, but others have orange. Is your pie orange or does it look like this?

The description of the white pumpkin pie: A dessert with a creamy, rich, and mildly sweet flavor that is less earthy than traditional pumpkin pie.

Yesterday was, as Glenn would say, a doctorin' day. I had to visit the hospital for my pre-surgery labs, etc. and by the time that was all done and we ran a few errands it was after noon, so...

Again, on the way home we stopped at Cracker Barrel. We both had the Barrel Cheeseburger, which was stellar.

Glenn had his without cheese and mayo and I had it with the works. Perfect! The bun was firm and tasty and didn't fall apart and the meat was done to my specs. It's still the time of the year when we can count on red tomatoes instead of the orangeish ones that show up on our plates out of season. The steak fries were great as well even though I'm not much of a "fries" person.

There was no reason for an evening meal. We were still feeling full at 7 p.m.

Today will be another story and a meal at home.

I do hope you manage okay with the tomatoes Taxy - they are in so many recipes, it would be great if you (or more specifically, your joints) could tolerate them occasionally. (y)

Quite reasonably priced compared to breast - in the UK at least. Hopefully the same for you Linda?
Yeah, the breasts are more expensive here as well. But I don't buy the breasts that often. I buy them mostly for things like making Schnitzel or maybe a recipe that calls for them specifically. But we (myself and my son) prefer the thighs and the legs.
