You have much more leverage pushing/twisting up and down, rather than from side to side.
Try it, you'll see. Sometimes the jar is just too big and/or too small. either case makes it hard to get a proper grip.

The elastic requires hand strength that I don't have anymore, and it sounds like you don't, either. Like my mom says, it ain't easy getting old ❤️
The elastic trick doesn't require nearly as much hand strength as one would guess. But, yeah, I'm not as strong as I used to be. It could also be that over a longish lifespan, even if something works on 99% of the extra hard cases, eventually you meet the 1%.

Poutine and Oven-fried Haddock. I'm stuffed. Will probably be my supper... but then you never know, supper is 4 - 5 hours away and things could change!
