I can't believe this thread hasn't been started yet...

We will be having rosemary chicken with spinach ravioli tossed in a brown butter, balsamic sauce. And a salad too.
Its a new recipe. Dh may not like it but I think I will!

What will be on your table tonight?

We're celebrating my soon to be ex-husband's birthday tonight. Yesterday was acutally his birthday, but he was spending that day with his ladyfriend.

He's always had a jones for great corned beef sandwiches. During our marriage we spent many a saturday afternoon cruising great delicatessens in the city. Officially, our favourite is Katz's.

So, since I have the day off today, I'm making corned beef with fried green cabbage (which no one will touch but me, by the way). I went to a local german bakery for rye bread. I went to another favourite deli for cold salads, too. I'm making knishes, which he's always loved.

Since his birthday always seems to fall right around president's day, I'm making him a cherry pie, too. That smells wonderful right about now.

I've been watching my fat intake for months and months now...but I'm really looking forward to a corned beef on rye!

Made the batter for the crepes already, resting in the frig, covered.
The chicken from last night will go in them and I'll wrap them then bake until lightly browned. I have tons of apples so I'll do the Cracker Barrel fried apples as the hub loves them. Gravy will be chicken and lemon, home made, already done and in the freezer from a previous meal too. Love leftovers when I can figure out what they actually are. Sauteeing a mismosh of vegetables that are ready for cooking as they've hung out long enough in the frig. I have fragments of several, onions/yellow cauliflower/green brocciflower/or/gr/red bell peps/carrots/celery. Neeley's cole slaw that I made yesterday for tonight. And we gotta eat the rest of the orange dreamsicle cake before it jumps in my mouth one more time.

Well, I am still off my feet until at least Wednesday (appointment with specialist) and DH is really busy with work today so he said he would pick up whatever I wanted for dinner tonight.

I was thinking a roasted chicken, mojo potatoes and coleslaw, but now that I read what you are all having:

- Vera, can you put some of your corned beef and fried green cabbage in a bag for him?

- Lefse, I will take some of everything! I don't know what Crackerbarrel apples are but they sound nummy

- Corozon, the ravioli and sauce would be great!

- Redkitty, what kind of soup.....?

- Uncle Bob, you didn't mention it today but can I have a shot of your bourbon? With that I may not have to make that doctor's appointment afterall!

Mmmm, two of my favourite flavours in soup! It sounds amazing. I make a butternut squash and pear soup, and a roasted red pepper and tomato, but I haven't used sweet potatoes in a soup before.

Lefse, thanks, I will try it!

So, since DH didn't think he could finish work and make it to your places in time, we are settling on the rotisserie chicken and accompaniments. I also asked for some of my favourite ice cream - Vanilla with white chocolate flakes.

$1.68/lb for asparagus!!!!!!
I'd be blanching and "Foodsaver"ing all day!

Orange Roughy for me tonight. Not sure how yet, grilled or blackened. Gotta use up some mushrooms so I'll cook them in butter. My bread in the machine should be done around 10:00, so I'll be eating late. That will give me time to pick out something else. Probably something I can do with the shrooms and maybe some onions...

????? Talk to me!

It helps to have a deep fryer, but a deep cast iron pot with vegetable oil will do. For half a head of cabbage you'll also need half an onion and a couple strips of bacon. Cook the bacon till crisp, and then crumble and set aside. Carmelize the chopped onion in the bacon fat. Cut the cabbage into large strips and simply fry them in the hot oil till they wilt. Toss them with the crumbled bacon and carmelized onion. S&P to taste.

Corazon, that pasta sounds wonderful!

We had homemade pizza with sausage, sundried tomatoes and grilled eggplant. We'll end the evening with hot fudge sundaes as soon as I get off the computer and make them!:)

Thanks PA. I thought the balsamic could be overpowering but it was not. The chicken came out a little dry but I think it was because I was trying to keep it warm for dh until he got home. Ravioli was good though, served it with Parm-Reg. Think I'll put toasted pine nuts on it next time.

Didn't get to make the salad. Callum is still super sick. I can't wait for him to be better, for more reasons than one. This is the worst illness he's ever gotten.

I could use one of those sundaes...
