Do you ever go to the theater anymore? Or wait and watch them on your TV.

Last time I was in a theater my son took me to see Avatar!

had to look it up but it was 2009. and I'm not sure but think before that I took my 2 sons to Star Wars (came out in 1977/8) in the early 80's. Think my youngest was a bit traumatized by it.

So who goes to the Theater and how often?

Not often. The last time I watched a movie in theatre is when my daughter made the movie and showed in a small theatre in Hollywood. My husband was the driver of a stick shift car, apparently not many people know how to drive a stick shift anymore, so we got the role by default. I was assistant to my husband, i.e. communicated with the ground crew.

Some years ago, SO and I took our grandson and a neighbor's daughter to an afternoon movie. We were stunned at how expensive tickets, soft drinks and popcorn were. Enough to keep me from going back soon. I bought the tickets online and selected seats. I was charged a convenience fee for that!

I know. Old coot who doesn't keep up with the times.

A good while. Nearly all the movie theaters here have upgraded to the nicer, plusher seats and added real food/drink service, which is great. However, I'm short, not quite 5'1" and so those nice seats don't really fit me. They are great for Craig since he's close to 6', but I'm not comfortable in them since my knees don't make it to the edge if I sit back against the upright of the seat, so I get really uncomfortable after a while.

In Picton, population 4500 we have a classic venue built in 1918 which has been restored called the Regent which show first-run films and indie screenings, live concerts, plays, dance, comedy and other community events and is quite the showcase actually. We go for the bands, mostly tributes bands, plays and movies for sure, the last one we went to was in late Oct. the newest version of "Frankenstein"

I don't remember the last time I went to a movie theatre, maybe 2010? I can't stand the volume of the commercials at the beginning. Have they fixed that yet? I used to have to stick my fingers in my ears and it was still loud enough that it hurt.

I think the last time I went to a movie theater was for a James Bond movie, Casino Royale (2006), and the Dallas Aston Martin dealer rented the whole theater. It was all customers and members of the automotive media, which is how I was invited.

I have a dedicated home theater in my house. I can pause a movie for a food or bathroom break, and my feet don't stick to the floor.

I started going again last year when they reopened my childhood cinema and now charge only £4 a ticket. It's tatty round the edges but I love a bit of faded glory.

So Ive been a few times recently. One was an anime series they were showing that my eldest son was into.
Another was a war film everyone raved about, no idea what that one was so no need to recommend it 😆
And the last one 28 years later the bone temple (enjoyed that).
I missed the remastered Harold Lloyd series as I was away, would have loved to have seen that at the cinema.
I think they're doing Jaws next 😃

It's a nice thing to do together as a family, especially as doing anything together seems to be ridiculously expensive.
£16 for four tickets is a bargain. Even their snacks aren't as overpriced as usual.

We just don't watch TV together like I used to when I was growing up.
There's so much choice everyone seems to stream precisely what floats their boat at a time that suits them best.
We do usually have a shared series on the go (at the moment that's 'Fallout') and most weekends we're together we will agree on something to watch for lazing after a large lunch but the cinema is a bit special.

No phones for starters, no pausing it because someone missed something or there's a knock on the door or someone has remembered something time sensitive they forgot to do.
We're a captive audience doing the same thing at the same time in silence.

The bit where we spill out of the doors saying "What did you think?" and talking about it all the way home is my favourite part.

When Brooklyn was first run. Great drama.
The industry needs to return to movie palaces.
The experience has to be bigger than life.

Like Dept Stores once were. It was a fun adventure.

The original James Bond films are best viewed in the theater with a first rate sound system.
Just hearing the Gold Finger theme brings back fond movie theater memories.

Growing up in Hollywood I can urge movie fans to once in your life visit a movie premier at a Hollywood classic theater with other movie fans.
Doesn't get any better.
Everyone respects each other, perfect viewing experience.

Oh, and we have a Drive in, which we generally go at least once a year.

Does anyone remember? It was CG or GG who used to go to a dinner theater? I'm pretty sure it was film and not live. I think there are a few of those around, would I go? Not sure. Sure sounds great though!

I remember the real movie we last saw was Inception in 2010, it was at an IMAX, but my husband complained it was so loud, so that was the last time.
We do have a large TV, and entertainment center that we watch, and we can pause whenever we like.

Yeah we watched Dune 2 in the theater here a couple of years ago and the music was so loud, it was very distracting to say the least.

Last time I actually went to a movie theater was around 1990. I took my Mom to see "Dances with Wolves" with Kevin Costner...because she asked me to take her.

Don't get me wrong, huge movie buff. Going to the theater just lost it's charm with the high prices imposed and often in less than ideal circumstances.

We've always kept a room with a home theater setup. Before the age of streaming we kept physical media, VHS tapes, DVD, Blue-Ray, etc. All of the physical media has gone the way of the dodo and I'm glad I don't have to keep up with it anymore.

Has anyone noticed that the quality of the newer movies since Covid seems to have gone downhill?
