We've been watching a 1950's TV program "The Real McCoys" and they use their cookie jar to keep the family money in. When Luke needs a new fishing pole, he asks Kate if there's enough money in the cookie jar. Or if Kate wants a new dress or something.

Jim Rockford always kept his gun in the cookie jar!

I thought that was an odd place, if I was a burglar I would head straight for the cookie jar to grab a fist full of Oreo cookies before I started tossing the joint!
