While looking for something else I found this site. Boy!! does this bring back fond memories from when I was a kid, these trees grew everywhere. Shanghi/ging [slingshot] fights with them, the over ripe ones we called snooty gobbles, good source of food when you were exploring the bush but the bushes did have thorns, like covered in them and we were always limping home with a thorn or two in our feet. So Dad used to wait for us to go to sleep then dig them out, all fixed in the morning, ready to go again.

Is there anybody else familiar with these

Not familiar with them Attie...but the sling shot (single stocks) Wars with China Berries brought back fond memories. The little hard green berries would pack quite a sting!!! It's no wonder we all still have our eyes!!!
