    Tips for using your microwave

Our microwave, apparently, is large and I have no trouble fitting 2 loaf pans in it along with the bowl of hot water. As for the first rise, my hands are knotted with arthritis so most of the mixing, kneading and first rise are done in the bread machine. Can't do it by hand anymore.

    Tips for using your microwave

I use ours for many things but one of the handiest uses is utilizing it as a proofing box for yeast breads, etc. What I do is to put a cereal bowl of water in it and set the microwave on HIGH for 4 minutes. Leave the bowl in then put whatever product I want to proof, on its last rise, still...

Best store bought macaroni and cheese

In my opinion, in our area, Kroger has THE best mac and cheese. However, it's their frozen version I am referring to. Definitely delicious. Edit to correct...the Kroger mac and cheese is in the refrigerated section of the store NOT in with frozen foods. Oops!

    Our pets

Update on our Harley. We have used Chewy to purchase food, treats, etc. from them. Couldn't say enough good things about them. So...today when arrived home from our weekly grocery shopping trip, there was a FedEx box with our name on it. What was it? It was a bouquet of a dozen fresh roses...

    Our pets

Well, sadly...our sweet Harley went over the rainbow bridge this morning. We rescued her from our local shelter when she was just a pup. She was on death row there because the shelter was ultra-full. She had a week, then...it was the green mile. We had recently lost our dog, Sadie, of many...

What's your weather right now? 2024 Edition

Well, we're truly into a typical spring for our area. Hot, hot, warm, cold, rain, wind. Choose one from the menu. However, we also have to be cognizant of heavy storms/tornadoes, which is why we have had a tornado watch for the major portion of our afternoon. There have been some touchdowns...

    St. Patrick's Day dinner - 17th March 2024

Regular St. Patrick's Day of roasted corned beef and cabbage, along with mashed potatoes and the last of the raspberry-coconut cake. Okey, dokey...we'll be fine.

Just wondering ... what is everyone reading now?

Have Harper Lee's Go Set a Watchman on my audio player. "Scout" is in her mid-20s and has returned home to visit her ailing father, Atticus. I've just begun the book and I think I'm going to enjoy it.

    Good cooks in family?

My mother was a good "basic" cook but wasn't interested in doing anything adventurous in the kitchen. I ended up taking over (yucky family issues) when I was about 8-years-old and have never looked back. Love to cook and will try darned near anything. What an adventure!!

What have you had for breakfast lately?

Today's fare was browned sausage patties, soft scrambled eggs, cinnamon-raisin English muffins, orange juice and coffee. Needless to say, we left the table satisfied.

What's the last movie you watched?

This afternoon Glenn and I watched a 1997 Robert Urich movie entitled Final Descent. The beginning was a bit slow, but by the time it took off (pun intended) we were fully hooked.

Do you prefer to follow recipes or do you prefer to improvise?

If it's a new recipe, I usually follow it to the letter and, if I find it necessary, I tweak it and put my own spin on it. More often than not, I do make changes.
