Thanks for the suggestions so far! Those sound like great ideas.

What to do with leftover raw filet mignon bits?

For Christmas we bought a huge slab of filet mignon, and cut it into individual steaks and grilled it. All the leftover small bits and pieces I threw in a bag and froze it. What's a good recipe for these leftover pieces of meat? I was thinking of sauteing them with something, but thought...

    Lite Corn Syrup-Shelf Life

I was wondering the same thing at Thanksgiving, when I went to make pecan pie. I still had a bottle of corn syrup left from last Thanksgiving. It had turned a bit yellow. I went to the Karo website, and it said something about corn syrup storing indefinitely, and that it would yellow with...

    Turkey Brine

I wanted to brine my butterball, and I just saw on another thread here where someone said you could brine a fresh butterball, just not a frozen one. Anyway, my dh doesn't want me experimenting on the turkey since people are coming here. Instead, I plan to use a mixture of butter and herbs, and...

Is cooking a turkey on it's breast best?

I cooked a fabulous turkey about five years ago, so moist, how I wish I'd kept that recipe! I am pretty sure I started it out on it's breast, and flipped it over partway through the cooking. I didn't cook it on it's breast the whole time, because I wanted it to brown. I also remember pouring...

    Turkey Brine

I came here looking for just such a thread! I found both Alton's and the below recipe promising. Instead of brining in a bag, I was going to try a large pot, or more than likely a cooler. Since it's cold here (about freezing at night) I was going to put the turkey in the cooler, and put it in...

Cooking with a copper casserole dish?

Yep, I've got a houseful of ugly old things, I have a liking for primitive country antiques myself. That copper pot was too primitive for me, though. I know it's value was because of it's age and ugliness, which is why I bought it for a couple of bucks in the first place. I knew it was...

Cooking with a copper casserole dish?

Hmm, well, I guess I will keep it and try it out, thanks! I used to sell a lot of estate sale finds on eBay, and once I sold an ancient copper pot. Seriously, it was so old my husband said it looked like something Jesus would have used, lol. It was handmade. I sold that ugly old thing for a...

Cooking with a copper casserole dish?

About 20 years ago, my MIL gave me a large oval copper casserole dish, and it hung on our kitchen wall for many years. Eventually I stuffed it away in storage. I've been thinking about our upcoming Thanksgiving dinner, and the fact that I need more casserole dishes---suddenly I remembered the...

    ISO subsitute for onions

My father can't tolerate onions since he's had his gallbladder removed. He comes to visit every summer for a week, and since we cook everything with onions that's a rough week for us!! I use chopped chives, it's not as oniony, if it bothers him he doesn't complain.

Opinions for uses of convection oven, please

Yes! Although I'm no expert, we've only had a convection oven for a few months. Every thing we have baked has turned out wonderfully, though. It does seem to cook a tiny bit faster, I'm still learning to get used to it. The directions say to set the temp 25 degrees lower than the recipe...

    Stuffing/Dressing Poll

We don't like stuffing in our family, either. We always have a wild rice dish with mushrooms and pecans or walnuts. There are a lot of stuffing threads here, I think this is the third one I've posted on. I feel like I'm really complaining a lot about stuffing today!!

I REALLY wish I liked Slow Cooker Meals

I've tried about 4-5 recipes in our crockpot, and only about one dish did we really like. It's definitely a different flavor, we ordinarily grill a lot of our food. I think soups and stews do best in crock pots. Large cuts of beef like a roast, yes, it can be dry. My MIL gave me a slowcooker...
