    Recipe managers for Linux

Finally, I am back online with my newly installed laptop. And with a MUCH bigger harddrive (320GB). So I divided it between WinXP and Kubuntu - a Linux variety. So far, almost all my time has been spent in Kubuntu and I am very impressed with how functional it is. For Linux there are two recipe...

    Jam is too thin

I am sure this has been discussed before, but my first language is not Englsih and I am a little lost regarding what to search for. Some weeks ago I made some strawberry jamThe taste is great, the color is great, but it is just a little too thin. Here in Brazil, it is hard to find anything...

Sounds absolutely amazing. Gonna try this one as soon as possible. It is summer here and lots of fruit available. And more to come.

    Pears, blue cheese and walnuts

Just finished a GREAT ruby port here. Now I have to wait for the next trip back to Norway to get another bottle (tax free). It is very expensive to buy the good stuff here. And yes, blue cheese, pears and port is a wonderful combination!

Vanilla and some remotely related things

This looks totally amazing! I will try to find someone that can bring me some when they travel because it might be a problem to get into Brazil unless you carry it in. I am just thinking of all the wonderful stuff I could make...

    Pears, blue cheese and walnuts

Great! That sounds like something that can be adapted. Maybe pear halves under the cheese filling and toasted walnuts on top... A salad is of course also an option, but this time I was looking for something sweeter :-) Trying to make the most of some local ingredients.

    Pears, blue cheese and walnuts

I am aware of a few other threads about pears, but I am looking for a bit more specific things. In my mind, pears go well together with blue cheeze and walnuts. And I am thinking it should be possible to find a recipe for a cheezcake or a pie that combine these three things. But so far, my...

Vanilla and some remotely related things

Here in Brazil it is almost impossible to get hold of the real thing. I have brought some real vanilla (pods?) with me from Norway and I am saving them for a special occasion. And after use, I put them in a box of sugar. But.. In daily use, I have been using some artificial vanilla "sugar"...

    How to level my cakes?

From my experience, this differs a lot between the different types of cake. For one type of cake, I get the opposite problem. And I sometimes get a perfectly even cake. I do not remember where I read it, but to get an even cake, you have to have the right amount of baking soda and the right...

Suggestions for a starter and main course for a vegetarian

This time, neither me or the guest (all of them are close family of the person celebrating the birthday) mind making something separate from the others. What concerns me is to have a really special meal prepared for the vegetarian as well. Not just what the others get minus the meat. He told me...

    Oven temperature for cakes

The one we have is a lot more simple than that. There is a dial that operates the gas supply. You set it and that is where it stay. No temperature sensing. Like I said - VERY simple :-) So I do not have any idea what the temp is. I am guessing and sometimes things burn.
