ISO grated beetroot and carrot salad recipe

Thanks David. That recipe looks interesting. I spoke to my MIL today and she told me: She didn't think the salad had horseradish in it because she didn't like horseradish as a child and she loved this salad; It had chopped mint; The beetroot and carrot were definitely both grated...

ISO grated beetroot and carrot salad recipe

Hi buckytom. When I asked about the possible dressing she thought there was salt, pepper and vinegar. She didn't mention any creaminess or additional sweetness. I'll ask whether she remembers horseradish and see if she can give me any more info.

ISO grated beetroot and carrot salad recipe

My mother-in-law remembers having a delicious grated beetroot and grated carrot salad when she was a little girl. I would love to be able to make one for her. If anyone knows a salad recipe with these two main ingredients I would really appreciate getting hold of it.

    Creative people, share your ideas?

What about a block or two of modelling clay. I also like Andy's idea of the obscure gadget.

    Points to ponder

So let me get this right, Mr Buffet advises young people not to do what others say, but rather what makes them feel good. I wonder how he'd feel if the CEOs of his companies didn't reach their goals. Hmmmmm. Perhaps he just doesn't employ any insubordinate, unbridled young persons.

Broiling and other stuff I've learned

I love the differences. I love finding out that some ingredients and products that are hard to come by here are commonplace elsewhere and vice versa. I love finding out that we use the same terms for completely different things. I sometimes think it will be sad when globalised English takes...

    Our pets

Our little star Stella, our miniature schnauzer is our little star. For the Tennessee Williams fans, you'll be pleased to know that we always draw a smile at the park when we call her name. She is sweet and friendly and what might be novel for Northern Hemisphere schnauzer owners, she has the...

    ISO help choosing countertops

I have granite and I love it. It's cool, shiny, attractive, smooth, and I can put hot things on it. My mother's old wooden counter tops scratched very easily and showed greasy spots. She now has Ceasarstone (stone composite), which appears to be very durable and is hard and cold like stone...

The TRUTH about ONIONS that you may (NEVER) know!

I knew a guy who also suffered when he ate onions. He learnt to say "without onions please" in about a dozen languages before he went on his honeymoon. BTW, I had to look up two online dictionaries before I found 'agita'. Now I'm going to make it my mission to drop it into a conversation...

The Metric System in the USA

For a few years after they converted to metric in Australia, my father used to convert temperatures, speeds and distances back to imperial. But after a while he just stopped. He just started to know that 26º C is a lovely forecast, 130 km/h is too fast to drive and a 2 km walk is not that far...

    Metric System

What a wonderful thought that housewives somewhere in the world have such clout. I suppose I should expect this from a country that provides the very best and the very worst of freedoms (e.g. thoughts and creativity vs guns and greedy televangelists)

    Metric System

In Australia we changed over to metric in the early seventies. It was pretty painless for me because I was only a child. My older sisters were envious of me because I didn't have to learn measures such as chains, furlongs, fathoms, bushells, stones, acres etc. In general, pound measures are...

    Hi from Ozgal

I'm looking forward to being part of this online community. At the moment I work long hours and mainly cook for the survival of the family. I would like to work less and start cooking more for the enjoyment. From my lurking, I notice that there are some incredibly helpful and generous cooks...
