    Protein free bread

A friend called me for advise about protein free bread. She is caring for a person with Parkinson disease and the medication will be non effective is protein food is ingested. She said she found a protein free flour but would like to enhance the flavor with some other ingredients. Any suggestions?

    Spaghetti alla carbonara

Allow me. The raw eggs will no longer be raw eggs the moment you tossed the hot drained pasta on them.

    Spaghetti alla carbonara

Like anything else there must be a balance between dry and liquid ingredients. I have always used egg yolks only. One egg yolk and 75 grams of pancetta per 200 grams of uncooked pasta is my guideline. P.S I believe there was a typo in the original recipe: 15 gr. of pancetta is not enough for 500...

    My Bleeding Heart

We moved into our home this January and found this plant or tree that looks like an umbrella. Later in the spring it produced some little white buds that looked like cotton. All the leaves were healthy and green, it is a pretty plant. I have seen one similar much larger and taller, just like a...

    Our pets

Jack was already three years old when we took him to the trainer. He responded well, as long as he was at the training camp. When we took him home, it was a different story. My husband and I discussed the training methods and my choice would have been to have the trainer come to the house. At...

    Bean Cooking Method Comparison

I bought some fresh pinto bean, and I was disappointed to notice that still it required one hour to cook them, and no difference in the taste either. I boil them with fresh sage and fresh garlic cloves. Since the subject of home economy has come up, here a good tip: boil a large pot of beans...

Yes, we lived on the Pacific ocean near Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo for 12 years. Thanks for the info, I usually have my husband to walk Jack, and even he, if caught off guard, has a difficult time to hold him back. Jack is not a big dog but he is strong, and determined to get the cat. May be he is...

    Our pets

Our dog Jack does the same thing. My first instinct is to chase him in the hope to get hold of my shoe, but when I realized that he did enjoy this, instead of sounding excited, I say calmly ''that is my shoe, you better drop it'', he stands still looking at me and than he drops it. It does not...

    Bean Cooking Method Comparison

When soaking the beans overnight, (especially in summer) it is recommended to keep it in the refrigerator. If the water is too warm they might ferment and have an unpleasant smell.

    Our pets

This is Jack, our four year old, Mexican born boxer. We moved to Italy two years ago. He has adjusted well to urban living, but had to maintain his nap time in the hammock.... Learned to swim in the Magra River. Have a difficult time to hold him when a cat is in sight, and there are many around...

    Drying/storing homemade pasta

When I freeze the pasta dough, I flatten it out. It will defrost in less time and more evenly.

    Bean Cooking Method Comparison

Soaking the beans will only reduce the cooking time by 15 minutes more or less. So if you decide to have beans and no time to soak them, just go ahead.....

    Farro experiment

Farro Since I now live in farro country, I like to share with you some info on this wonderful grain, that has become part of my diet. Farro (Triticum) is the most ancient grain still cultivated to-day (mainly Mediterranean countries). It is basically not much different than wheat kernels...
